Kawii like move

Created by: jimmyjets
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2022
Published: May 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Was such a stupid thing to say to set expectations like that. Brining in a player that is top 5 in their position is difficult to do and needing to stay cap compliant would make it extra difficult.

Here's my best guess about what they could do.

Add to the blueline and add a top 5 goalie in the league and go all in for 2 years. Then Matthews is a UFA, Helle would be a UFA, Nylander is a UFA, Tavares and Marner are 1 year from UFA, Muzzin and Brodie would be UFA. Basically have to rebuild the team from scratch at that point but capspace and being in Toronto will mean UFAs will sign there and if you bring a cup I don't think people will mind a full rebuild right afterwards... if you win it all.

Full rebuild in two years, after you've cleaned out the prospect cupboards and picks.

Yeah, this ain't happening.

I would move Hellebuyck for the right price, unfortunately this wasn't enough to move him. I think as fan bases we all over value our own prospects, and that's what it looks like here. Jets are trading arguably their most valuable asset for just a lot of things, but nothing that is of proper value IMO. Those 1st round picks would be the most valuable thing in the trade, and even then, if all goes right for the Leafs, those are somewhere in the late 20's.
