Starting a soft rebuild

Description
A real rebuild would mean trading Jake which would be idiotic. Therefore, let’s try and clear out bad contracts and play some of the young guys.

Devils wouldn't pay extra for retention, they have plenty of cap room

Dumoulin had a down year imo & is coming off a MCL tear in playoffs. Not really worth taking him on at this point. At 30, may be at the end of the road or at least the productive years are behind him.

He will cost more and probably get a deal that goes beyond a year. Ritchie is a one year rental and we can bury him if/when he sucks and play Puustinen or Poulin

Oh, I didn't mean to make it seem I wanted him, only that the Devils shouldn't be paying for someone else to retain. The Dumoulin to NJ offers seem to be top 5 in players sent to NJ on here.

Nah, I really don't have any interest in him. LHD is a spot im okay with for the Devils.
