Setting up for the Future While Being Competitive

Created by: djb6753
Team: 2022-23 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: May 17, 2022
Published: May 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
You can put whoever you want to give a try from the minors in Karlstrom’s spot on the 3rd line, but I would be ok with this. Especially if it gives us the room to give Roope his big extension next offseason and let’s the likes of Stankoven, Borque, and Johnston get one more year under their belts before we make them full timer NHL-ers. Assuming we don’t have the room to sign Pavs again, I have an idea of what we’d probably look like in 2023-2024 (assuming Nill doesn’t make any other major trades or something). I’ll put that team in a second post.

Additional Details:
Maybe Faksa doesn’t go to Arizona because of the M-NTC, but the idea is to find a trade partner for him this year for some sort of draft compensation. Clearing his salary is the important part.

I'd want more for Guri. Also don't see much reason in placing Benn to 4th line. He still had an almost 50 point year last year.

I’m fine with the 3rd line being Benn-Dellandrea-Namestnikov and slotting in Karlstrom as 4th C. But I think if we want to be different next year, trading Guri for an affordable two-way D man and making a splashy FA signing that will bring tons of points is the way to go.

We'll be a plenty different now with Bowness gone. This team has it in them to adapt into different playstyles.

This is why I'm hesitant for the Stars to move Guri this offseason. I'd rather bite the bullet on his trade value after next season to see how he performs in a new system this next season.

Same. Gurianov was so good in the bubble playoffs in 2020, and I'm keen to see if he can reach that same level again.
