Without Backy

Created by: All_Knowing
Team: 2022-23 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2022
Published: May 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this is one of the "dream offseasons" I could have for the Caps (if Backy does not return). EDIT: Trocheck is my number one center choice (instead of Malkin). I already did one with Trocheck so doing one with Malkin now.

1) Malkin is brought in and meshes well with the Russians - I think he fits the Caps the best out of the relatively thin center free agents
2) Caps get a vet goalie (and Russian to mentor Sammy)
3) Nichushkin bolsters the top 9 (and can move from 3rd line to 2nd or 1st when needed)
4) Kulak helps the defense
5) Larsson is resigned to give both winger and center depth
6) Caps have some money to play around with at the TDL

As a Caps fan, I am bias. But I think this team does some damage in an already powerful East.

*Disclaimer: If the Isles trade is not even, add another pick (3rd maybe). That trade, in my opinion, works best (for the Caps) with VV, NOT Sammy.

Although this is a slight overpay imo, but retained salary makes it even. I think Varly fits well with the Caps as a vet goalie.

I would also rather sign Trocheck, but just have a feeling that he will sign somewhere else (just a gut feeling). But I should have written in the description, Trocheck is my number one pick.

He would work really well with mantha because imo they have a similar game. And he is a pest. Oshie like but a center,

He hates me? I do not even know him...

But yes I assume he stays with the Pens. Although I do not think he is such a "true penguin" as you might think. I am sure playing with a fellow countryman and friend (Ovi) would interest him

Totally agree. Really would be a great fit for the Caps.

I think this team (sub in Trocheck sure instead of Malkin) would be a real contender. Have younger forwards and better depth, defense gets a boost, and finally a goalie tandem that I am comfortable with.

Oh got it - I didn't realize you knew him personally to know that fact. Nice!
