Not enough to get Fiala and Miller doesn't really make sense for Canes imo, if that's even enough to get him (prob need to swap the 2nd w/ a 1st).

Why not? Raanta is good, Gardiner gets them to the floor. Maybe not Philly's second but a 3rd and prospect?

Why would we? Why burn assets on okay players to overpaid players? We could easily sign two players that will put up similar stats and would only cost money, something we have over 40 million available to spend.

So many team fan bases think, oh cool, buffalo has space we can get rid of some of our contracts we want. Then either want an asset, or don't want to give up assets to remove those contracts.

They often fail to realize their is no motivation for the sabs to do many, if not all, the cap dumps I see teams dumping on us.

So I guess I ask, why would we give a 2nd round pick to help Carolina out? Long list of players available with raanta and gardiner's production and they won't cost a 2nd round pick.

Because there isn't a long list? Raanta is better than anyone the Sabres have a realistic shot at in FA. Like I said, I wouldn't give up the 2nd, but a 3rd and a lesser prospect? Imagine last years team with goaltending that was 5 times as good? Thats what we're talking about here. Going from Anderson/Tokarski to Raanta and a solid back up like Comrie gives the Sabres a real shot at making some noise next year.

How? Holtby here is a 2 or 3 year contract for 5 million per. Overpay, keep your assets, help develop upl.

I dont think fans realize how much the sabs can actually do with the amount of cap they need to spend.

Thats fracking terrible lmao. Holtby isn't nearly as good and that 5 mil in the third year when we need to sign all the relevant RFA's will crush the team.

How does adding Raanta at 2 mil in cap stop the Sabres from doing other things? especially if the cost is a conditional 3rd and prospect you've probably never watched?

Edit: You're also putting a lot of faith in a goalie (UPL) who has spent more time injured than in NHL action. Not exactly a recipe for success.

This team has plenty of money in year 3. And would have zero issues resigning their players based on a contract for 3 years 15 million.

Assuming they make no other moves between now and 3 years from now sure. Even if I accepted your premise, Holtby at 5 mil for 3 years is still way less value than Adding Raanta for a conditional 3rd and mid prospect

Fans really do have a hard time grasping how far 40 mil goes. They have zero issues with spending to the cap, and having contracts falling off the next two years for their RFAs.

Raanta might be better than holtby, is he a 2nd round pick better? Nope. And gardiner is a pure cap dump that cane fans have been trying to get rid of since last offseason.

So is raanta worth giving up a 2nd and taking a cap dump over holtby? Nope.

Literally zero motivation from the sabres standpoint to do something like this.

you keep saying second, i clearly said "would rather it be a 3rd" And I have absolutely no trouble grasping the concept of cap space. As I said before, they are obviously going to add more talent over the years that will cost $, in addition to having to pay RFA's like Quinn, Peterka, Power and Dahlin. And they'll probably want to keep adding after the fact, which could be made difficult if a 3rd string goalie (by then) is making 5 mil on their cap.

2nd or 3rd. Doesn't matter. Why waste assets? Keep the picks, keep filling the system, and use the biggest asset they have to fill the roster, cap space, not trades.

because a 3rd round pick has incredibly low odds of even becoming an NHLer, much less a good one. Why so obsessed with low end picks? Raanta could get them to the post season next year. You don't think thats worth a 3rd rounder?

2nd round picks also have incredibly low odds to making the nhl. Actually take out the top 5, and even the first round odds sucks.

Which just furthers my point, you don't waste picks when you can use cap to sign similar UFAs.

Keep the lotto tickets.

No goalie nearly as good as Raanta is signing with the Sabres. Even if they were, this ownership isn't spending that kind of coin.

I'm not sure if you have an actual fact in that statement.

Pegulas won't pay, but you'd expect them to take on camp dumps such as gardiner? Those thoughts dont align.

Still cost money, insurance and their co-allowance.

Seriously we can stop talking about it. This is the furthest thing from an attractive offer for the sabs.
