Crosby has earned the right to forever be in 1 or 2 even if his skill falls off a cliff and he's a 4th liner for the rest of his career. Ovi too.

Ovi, a guy who scored 50!!!! goals this year is a borderline all-star? Not to mention Kreider who scored 52. Yet you have Eichel who hasnt done anything in the NHL besides one 82 point season as a franchise player? Come on, this ain't it.

Agreed also Ovi may not be putting up season GOAT numbers now but he has had a GOAT career

Ovi could definitely be Tier 4 in my opinion, but I feel that his game has become way too one-dimensional for him to be considered as good as the other players in that tier. For Kreider, if this ranking was based on the past season, he would be tier 3, but it's not. This was the only season Kreider has played to that level and I probably wouldn't expect him to do that ever again. Before Eichel's surgery, he was a bonafide star and was easily a top 10 player in the league. He was slow to start the season in Vegas but as time went on he looked like his old self, which is why I think he's currently worthy of being considered a Franchise talent.

No way there will be that many generational talent. I would say only McDavid from the players I the NHL can reach generational talent. There has been plenty of guys that have been as good as Draisaitl, Matthews, MacKinnon, Kucherov. For McDavid and Gretzky.. nobody has been like them.

This isn't based on career, this is based on current ability. Perhaps I should have named the tiers differently because I can see why that would be confusing. However, if this were to be based on career, I would probably argue Ovi is in the generational tier. Don't get me wrong, he's a top 10 player ever, but McDavid is at a level no one has seen since Gretzky/Lemieux.

Really depends on your definition of 'generational' but then we're just arguing over semantics. I agree that McDavid is at a higher level than the Matthews'/Draisaitl's of the league, which is why I had a separate tier for him. I just think guys like Matthews and Mackinnon are too rare and they have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the league.

That’s fair. Yah our definitions are clearly different. MacKinnon, Draisaitl, Matthews etc are and will be better than most of the league, but In my opinion for my definition, they are not generational.

Yes but different types of players achieve GOAT status, Ovechkin who will likely be and is already arguably the best goal scorer of all time. That should mean GOAT if it comes to career and this year he had 50g, 40A so he should have been in Franchise
