GM for a Day

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this team is competitive and plays with grit. JJ will be in the lineup quickly due to injury or earns a more regular spot. Competition is a good thing. I can see JJ stepping in for Krebs or Quinn if they're not playing well. Everyone is high on Samuelsson and so am I but instead of top pairing with Dahlin why not let him get some reps with Gudas. Plus they would be tough to play against. Also like pairing Power with another defenseman with size that plays a simple game. Paul is sandpaper and will have more prominent role next year if/when we lose Z and Okposo. Also, love Holtby on a two year deal. He can mentor UPL this year and either be his backup or traded at deadline (if he plays well) next year. Particularly if we hold a bit of salary. I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea - I already envision the "where's Peterka" and "never trade Oloffson" replies but this is what I would do if I were in charge for a day.

I like the trades, although idk if konecny is a realistic option (plus he and dahlin lowkey hate each other so you'll have to work past that too).

Id sign someone otherthan lybushkin for 2nd pair though. I dont think hes very good. Or rather, I think if you're willing to give him 7.5 mil total, you can probably give that to a different defender who brings more to the table.

No reason to throw away Olofsson for nothing and then spend a 1st replacing him with someone who produces less than Olofsson, just because he has a different name. Hard pass on Holtby

Would probably be easier to do TK do VO+ a first or high prospect… not sure that gets it done but it might

Not throwing away Oloffson. It's addition by subtraction. He doesn't play a complete game. Here's what Elite Prospect says about Konecny...

A talented scoring forward that can play either as a center or on the wing; plays with the bite and intensity of a guy who is willing to do anything to win a game. Possesses dynamic skating ability that allows him to accelerate rapidly with each step, incredible hockey sense, electrifying puckhandling skills, and a lightning release on his shot; when you put this skillset together with hard-nosed determination, proactiveness in all three zones, and a physical willingness to grind and persevere, you get a game-changer who can be extremely difficult to play against.
