I have no illusions of Mercer being the next generational player.
But trading Mercer++ for Fiala at this point would be an overpay and a huge mistake.

I personally think its an overpayment on Fiala but I think its realistic. Maybe change the 1st to a 2nd and 3rd. Either way I think Mercer is the main piece in this deal.

Think it'd have to be the other way around, he's part of the Devils long term core by now.
Mercer being swapped for a lesser asset (mid rd pick, Okhotiuk, Thompson etc) along with that 2023 1st + Kuokkanen should be more than fair value for Fiala.
Now if Ottawa or some other team beats that offer I wouldn't shed a tear.

Decent agm btw, it's a fun looking team!
Not sure Philly does that trade but I get the thinking behind it.
Could also use an upgrade in net and have Daws in the minors for one more year.

With the position Minnesota is in mixed with I'm not sure how many teams are in the market, this very much pushes overpay. It's really NJD, OTT, LAK...? I'm not sure who I may be missing that hits all the key points of cap room, assets to trade, willingness to win now (as opposed to tanking teams or ones looking to be on upswing but would be better off with better draft picks now), etc.

Fiala suitors- Ott (leader in the clubhouse), NJD, LAK, NYI, Phil, Ducks. That’s from Michael Russo of the Athletic, he did an article on potential suitors and reasoning why they’d be interested.

Farabee's practically untouchable, and even if he wasn't, that wouldn't be close to enough for him
