Trying to rebuild Chicago properly Highly Unlikely scenario

Created by: QJohns62
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2022
Published: Jun. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
One of the biggest things about Chicago that has been bugging me is how they ruin the development of younger players by shoving them into the lineup early. Very few guys can step into the NHL right away, and usually you need to pair them with vets who can provide good habits. I moved out some of the more burdensome contracts for assets, and even with retaining salary, this sets up another bad year for Chicago but allows for more prosperous years to come with at least selling better hope this year

Notes:
- Assuming the Kane trade goes through, I do believe Kemell is the pick and I think, having played in Europe, he's more ready for the NHL than some other guys (see very Lucas Raymond like tendencies to his game)
- Strongly believe that Derek King will be replaced now that Bruce Cassidy is available. Assuming that the staff also gets a revamp, I believe you would see Nolan Baumgartner and Mike Yeo as assistant coaches. Cassidy has playoff pedigree and has experience coaching top talents, Baumgartner is a better defensive coach than people give him credit for, and Yeo is a guy who is a fantastic senior assistant but for whatever reason doesn't get enough measured success as a head coach.
- Strong belief many of the contracts signed will be short term to gain trade assets going into 2023, especially if teams overpay at the deadline (teams love to overpay, and if one falls way out of it after the deadline, that could be a solid draft chance at Bedard)

CHI
  1. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
Let's be real, with the NMC, Toews has total control of where he goes here. It's either going to be a familiar market or a championship calibre squad, and most highly competitive teams cannot afford that cap hit, even with retention. At least Chicago is making a solid attempt at getting a disgruntled forward who is good at distributing the puck. If it's that known Scheifele wants out, his value isn't super high comparatively to other similar centres.
WPG
  1. Toews, Jonathan ($2,250,000 retained)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Winnipeg wants to stay as competitive as possible, but it's clear the new wave of young guys needs to come in. Chicago retains as much salary as they can justify, still need to throw in a pick, but Winnipeg gets a proven championship calibre leader to help teach guys like Perfetti and Lucius, and help refine Dubois's talent
2.
CHI
  1. Bryson, Jacob [RFA Rights]
  2. Okposo, Kyle
  3. 2022 1st round pick (BUF)
  4. 2022 1st round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Chicago forced to take back some salary in Okposo, but gaining a steady younger backend player (who personally I don't think has reached hit potential yet) in Bryson, as well as the 9th and 28th pick in this draft (see added players for mock selection of the 9th), this may be the best package you can get for a guy on the back end of his career
BUF
  1. Kane, Patrick ($1,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
For a team that had a bit of a "toxic culture" issue, it's become very clear that hometown guys play well in Buffalo (see Alex Tuch). Kane playing on this younger squad, elevating some of the younger guys play, showing a championship mentality to Krebs, Cozens, Dahlin, Power, etc. this might not push the Sabres into the playoffs, but it certainly lays the proper groundwork Buffalo has lacked.

It would take toews at 50% retained a 1st and another piece to get Scheifele

    Absolutely not from Buffalo
We are more than a “Patrick Kane” away from even being a playoff team
Not giving up the assets it would take to get him,
especially since he’s essentially a “rental”
1 year of Kane doesn’t lay any “groundwork”
Just like 1 year of Taylor Hall didn’t
He’d be traded by the deadline, and for less than we gave up
And that just doesn’t make sense

    And guess what else?
Kane doesn’t waive his NMC to come here anyways!
    We aren’t good enough yet
Only teams he’d waive for would have to be a true contender

    This trade is terrible
    Just delete it dude

Jets management wouldn’t have the gonads to trade scheifele to a division rival, especially for a trade tree that may end that quick.

I think theyre only a goalie away from being a playoff team, they have cap to pick one up, Kane adds security to the forward group. Kane >>>>> Hall in multiple factors
