temporary Dcore

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2022
Published: Jun. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petry is gone - probably at the draft to package a better pick and move up.

No big UFA signing and we can't have a Dcore with 3 rookies in it. Let them play in Laval to develop instead of being in the sh*t show above.

Interesting idea, especially with the need at RD, unfortunately he's the wrong type of D for Power I believe, so the Sabres decline

I mean it doesn't make a ton of sense for them yet... There still rebulding so don't need an aging defender for much more than the leadership and experience. They may aswell sign one in free agency instead of acquire one by substantially lowering there current first round pick.

Yeah I get that, just think some people are exaggerating when they say they wouldn't give future considerations for a top RHD

Yeah, but I don't know many top RHD that average 40+pts per season willing to sign in BUF - that's a factor to consider.

That is very true. However I don't know if you can consider Petry to be that anymore. He did show signs of slowing down last year and does turn 35 soon. I just don't see it worth there while at this point. If they had made the playoffs this year than thats another story, but they might aswell keep the earlier first imo and sign a Chariot or a Leddy for free

I think Petry's problem was more mental last year... he was bounced around with different partner (Edmundson was injured) and his wife, 3 children and unborn child move to the US in the middle of the season because of the Covid restriction (wanted her kids to play hockey)... that messed him up.
