No reason Gibson would fetch a price like this. He's had 3 bad seasons in a row. No one has fetched a premium price after playing like he has for 3 straight seasons.

don't really think it's too much. Gibson maybe hasn't been "elite", but he has had to play in front of a bad team offensively and defensively and when he had a good team in front of him, he has been amazing. Amirov is a question mark rn, Robertson won't have a place in Toronto atm, and they want to win now, and the first will be in the late 20s, really only big piece here is Robertson, and you get Gibson at only 3 mil.

Gibson hasn't even been the best goalie on those Ducks teams. It's not that the team in front is only playing bad when GIbson is there, it's that Gibson hasn't been playing well behind that bad team. He was ranked 24th amongst teams starters going into this season and 4 of the people above him had much better seasons, he will be further down that list going into next year. The Ducks are in the same situation as Florida is with Bobrovsky. There are other goalies who should be their starter but they are paying 1 so much they can't justify him not being it. There's just no reason for him to have this kind of value, he's not this goalie anymore.

I'll spell it out like this. Stolarz started 23 games for the Ducks last season. They were 12-8-3 with him in net. A 0.587 point %. Gibson started 56. The team went 18-26-11. A 0.420 points %. The team actively does better, much better, when Gibson isn't in net. It's not that the team in front of Gibson is bad, it's Gibson contributing to how bad the team is. We could go into basic stats, fancy stats, etc. It doesn't matter where you go, the result is the same.

We can have a discussion that Stolarz is just a better goalie than Gibson I guess but at that point you've pretty much already surrendered on whether Gibson is worth this much or not.

I did a post a few weeks ago asking what the pric3 for Gibson would be. The answer was really varied because 1. Goalies don't get traded much. 2. People either think he is great or that he sucks.

The retention is huge for the leafs so it definitely drives the price up. I think the 4th comes out and the ducks add a pick going back

Anaheim does do either deal. Toronto doesn’t even cover all the retention you have here for 5 years

If the $15 million retention is valuable to Toronto, your last sentence is completely backwards.

The value is too high even with the retention. I was offering a counter perposal

"The retention is huge for the Leafs" means Toronto is getting the value. But you're taking the fourth away from Anaheim and having Anaheim give a pick back, which is exactly the opposite of what should happen if Toronto is getting more value from the retention than is included in the original proposal.

For your information, retention totaling $15 million is worth at least a first- and a second-round pick.

You don't understand what I'm trying to say.

Trading
Amirov
Robertson
Holl
1st round pick

Just to clarify I do't think the value is there so I say no deal. Retaining his contract helps but the total cost of the deal doesn't make sense.

It's hard to predict goalie trades because they are rare and usually pretty unique.
