Sharks with no major trades

Created by: pavelski_tip_in
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2022
Published: Jun. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Buyouts are not the ideal way to offload Labanc and Vlasic, but generating creative trades with willing counterparties is difficult. Also this way we keep as many of our 1-2 round picks as possible.

2. Probably need to figure out how to make the money work to get one more player on the roster to hit 23 players.

3. This absolutely causes cap problems next season.

4. Forsberg provides much needed scoring and someone to play with Couture (unlikely he signs with SJ but we sure do love giving out long-term deals). Mikheyev and Couture are also a good defensive forward group to pair against other top lines.

5. Allows us to play Bonino and Nieto on the 4th line. Nieto-Bonino-Gregor played well together last season. Not likely to reflect a Boughner lineup because it lacks a player who is always willing to drop the gloves.

6. The 3rd line is the kid line! Suspect defensively, but lots of fun to watch. Spending up to the cap is problematic because it doesn't provide us with much flexibility to carry extra forwards to step in if either Eklund or Bordeleau need to go down.

7. I am still a little bearish on Ryan Merkeley, and it's probably a bad idea to go into the season having to rely on him. Also not very confident in Meloche and Knyzhov is a question mark at this point.

8. Dahlen feels like the odd man out, but I don't think we should give up on him yet. Had a very poor end to the season last year, but he's young and showed flashes.

signing yet another player to a long-term contract is a bad idea

also I'd switch Knyzhov and Megna

I'd keep LaBanc over grabbing Forsberg.
