Bill Guerin LAUGHS At Your Pitiful Offers

Description
Bill Guerin has been reading ACGM and folks? He's absolutely APPALLED at what you're offering. Roby Jarventie? GET OUTTA HERE! 13th overall? IN THIS MEDIOCRE DRAFT?

Full of rage and hubris, Bill has passed along to me his plan for keeping Kevin Fiala and doing his best to negotiate the buyout-filled waters of the next three years while still maintaining a decent squad.

MOVES!
-First, he gets Fiala down to $7M AAV by offering the 8th year that only he can.

-Now, needing to move some cap, he finds some movable guys. Lou Lamoriello throws up a 3rd rounder to get more LD depth in Dmitry Kulikov. Ron Francis was looking for veterans - Tyson Jost is technically one of those! Thanks for the 4th, Ronnie baby. The Maple Leafs need a new goalie to blame for next year's first round exit? Cam Talbot is cheaper than Jack Campbell will cost and all you gotta do is send over a 3rd! Wow, look at that - nearly $8M gone in a couple moves, and a few assets gathered for the future!

Now, let's fix some holes in this lineup.

-We have zero goalies! We fix this by signing MAF to an incentive-laden contract and hopefully push some bonus money to next year when it will be Future Bill's problem. If Eric Comrie wants more, there are other options to sign for a similar AAV - we want to give Hunter Jones and Jesper Wallstedt another year or two to develop before throwing them in the fire next season/the year after. We're also gonna give Jacob Middelton a bridge deal to play LD3 at $1.7M and bring in Austin Czarnik on a cheap deal to bring some balance to the wings.

LINES
Let's keep the top 9 the same - they did extremely well this season. Ain't broke? Don't fix.
I think using the 4th line as a chance to ease some younger guys into the lineup is going to be *extremely* important - you can shelter this line as much as possible but this team will need ELCs to replace guys like Freddie Gaudreau and Matt Dumba over the next couple seasons. Get their feet wet instead of throwing them into the fire in 2023-24, you know?

There's still some issues here and you're hoping a lot of things go right. But I think you can treat 2022-23 as a bridge year to the next wave of youth showing up in 2023-24 - Wallstedt splits time with an old MAF and hopefully learns some things; maybe O'Rourke or Lambos develop really well and can for Goligoski over to RD2 and fill in Dumba's spot in the D corp easily; and your goal is Marco Rossi stepping up in to that 2C slot that year and finding another player in the $1Mish range to fill in your bottom 6 C slot.

I think this works? Wild fans, tell me how far off I am.

Rossi won’t be 4C, he’ll be in Iowa is that’s the case. I see him as 2C. Same with Addison, he won’t be on the bottom pair. A ride side of Spurgeon, Dumba, Addison won’t happen, that might be the smallest right side in NhL history ha. And BG refused to play Addison when both Spurgeon and Dumba were healthy, he played Benn instead.

Fiala isn't being kept, that just not happening. Guerin wouldn't ever offer him that type of contract especially for that long. There's difference in character and image in terms of Guerin and what he seeks and how he looks at fiala.

Wasn't sure what the plan was with those guys TBH - but for 4C and RD3 I'm sure you can get some street UFAs for very similar cap hits and let the kids develop in the AHL.

I don’t think it’s a fit issue, it’s a money issue. He did offer Fiala 3X6 mil last off-season, so BG did want him on the team, just didn’t think he’d blow up like he has. I bet BG wishes he went 6X6 last off-season now.

Running it back with this group and assuming anything other than a ~16-24ish pick feels foolish.

We really need to get out of this 1st round exit spin cycle.

Trade Fiala and set up for a TDL sale.

Yeah, for sure. I don’t see a way the Wild bring back both Dumba and Fiala though. Our dead cap increases 2 mil the next two seasons (after 2022-2023 season), so just isn’t feasible IMO.

Nicely written, fun to read.
I don't see the Wild keeping Fiala or him signing for only 7million, but we sure don't know for certain. Rossi would be a better fit on a Fiala/Boldy line imo. I believe either Dumba or Addison will be moved either this summer or during the season before the TDL (Dumba). Middleton looked good paired with Spurgeon so keep them together.

It was reported by Russo Guerin didn't trust him to offer him long term contract last year like fiala wanted. Alot of problems between 2 sides

I'm not sure what a Herzog is but sure this deal works if TOR can't get Campbell signed to a reasonable dollar.

Yeah, I still say it's probably 95% that he's gone, but I thought it would be fun to play in the sandbox and see if you can make a decent team while keeping both him and Matt Dumba

Did trust him … to perform at the level he just did. And Russo has speculated that now that Fiala did, “I bet he (BG) wishes he offered 6X6” like Fiala wanted last off-season (he’s said this with Dan B on KFAN a few times.

BG sets his prices and doesn’t go above that, and that bit him with Fiala, but how many people thought Fiala would blow up like he did? Not many. But it’s not about Fiala’s personality or anything like that. This is purely dollars.
