What else do you think PIT can add? Not many prospects beyond Poulin that are particularly interesting.

Crosby needs to be included if the valuation is being done by a VAN fan

Would be shocked if Pitt traded Poulin. It makes much more sense for Kapanen to be the forward coming back in a miller trade. JR loves him and has said they want more speed in VAN.

The base trade which I think is fair is

Kapanen +1st + Marino --> Miller (no $ retained)

any alteration to that trade would just mean equal value added to the other side IMO

I could see that happening, as Vancouver could use another right shot in the top-9. Do Pens fans see Schenn as a short-term replacement for Marino in the top-4 that adds value to the deal?

Schenn is definitely a player of interest for his physicality and contract. But we are already set at 3RD and 7th D so he would have to play 2RD. Ideally he is on your third pair, no?

It would probably look like this

Dumoulin-Letang
Matheson-Schenn
POJ (assuming pettersson is traded) - Ruhedel
Friedman

The problem being that is kind of a weak D core. It has three pairings that complement each other very well, but unless POJ comes out the gate hot it probably has 3 bottom pair caliber guys in the top 6 (ruhwedel, schenn and POJ). This would allow us to pay our forwards more though. If we wanted to go for a crazy second line which I think would be a lot of fun it could work. I will make an ACGM of what it would look like from pitt perspective, what do you have schenns value at so I know?

I think I agree with you assessment that Schenn is a bottom pair defenseman at this stage in his career. He brings physicality and strong defensive awareness but the wheels are likely to start falling off soon.

He definitely holds trade value as a #5 defenseman (right handed as well), but I’m not aware what exactly it would take in return.
