Devils say no. even with picks to balance it. Kuokkanen is possibly part of their long term future and they have no reason to get a veteran.
1. they aren't in a playoff position.
2. Martinez is overpaid.
3. if they wanted something like a Martinez, they could get a cheaper and younger option in free agency.
4. NJ would be paying an unneeded veteran 5 M for 2 years to be on their 3rd line. not to mention, Vegas would need to take graves back or devils would have to trade him elsewhere.

That would cost at least 2 1sts but we donT want the dead weight and he was hurt all year. Plus retention on Kuok costs more

The value is off but Kuok is literally a replacement level guy, he was awful this year
Seems like Martinez was injured a lot as of late, I think he might have some gas left in the tank.
He'd be more than fine in the Devils for at least one year and should put up very good results in a more sheltered role:
Graves - Hamilton
Siegenthaler - Severson
Martinez - Smith
As for Kuokkanen and him going to VGK... it could be any bottom 6 guy at any team really.
Wanted to give Kuokkanen to make the trade more fair, he's got some runway still to develop further, was injured a lot of last season also.
I would sooner rather the Devils move Tatar or Zacha before Kuokkanen but none of them would fit that well in a Vegas trade.
The point here was just to see what the VGK lineup could look like anyways.
Not married to the idea of trading Martinez for Kuokkanen in the slightest.
