Description
One of Johnny or Matty as well as Toffoli will have to go to make the money work. Sandin has to be included in the trade because after taking Tkachuk who will probably sign for about 9 mil, theres no way the leafs can sign Sandin

No, it's bad for Toronto. Leafs can't afford the difference in Nylander and Tkachuk's cap, and that's a lot to give up for one year of Tkachuk.

If Tkachuk signs a 9x8 it will work for toronto because in this deal they give up Sandin as well. I made an ACGM draft of this trade from torontos end and it works just fine

I thought the value was pretty spot on for the Tkachuk trade, and Cgy leaves some value on the table with toffoli cause they're over the cap before that trade and teams know that he NEEDS to be traded, so they lose leverage

Lol just because you think it's bad for Toronto doesn't change the fact that it's crap for Calgary. The gap between Tkachuk and Nylander is massive

Maybe, but the cap between Tkachuk is 2m, Nylander has one more year of control and the post wanted the Leafs first. Sounds like you know Tkachuk isn't signing long term with Calgary.

Nobody would ever trade for Tkachuk on the basis of only signing him for 1 year. Your entire argument is flawed right from the start.

I am very confident that Tkachuk does sign long term with Calgary actually. I was merely speaking hypothetically to appease the pessimistic people posting in this thread

Well no one is going to trade for Tkachuk unless he has signed contract, so the only way that really gets done, if Calgary gives permission for him to negotiate with other teams.
I don't think people are being pessimistic at all....it's reality. Teams can spend their cap on good UFAs without giving good inexpensive young assets by trading for a RFA...or even a signed RFA.

What? Teams trade for RFA's all the time. If Calgary does consider trading Tkachuk's rights they will certainly give any interested team (which should be every team in the league) permission to talk with his agent.

True teams trade RFAs. But fewer RFAs with one year remaining till UFA status are traded....for a lot. And even few if any with a 9m QO . Talking to an agent doesn't mean that much.....talking to the agent and signing a longer term extension is important

So you genuinely expect he would return less than Jones? If so I have nothing left to say to you until after he signs a long term deal with the Flames because it's pretty much all but announced
