For once it's not MTL who screw other but in this trade they got screw both time.

While we could agree that Hoffman value is low so maybe at best around third round pick or late second round pick is passable the value of Anderson and Petry is not okay here.

For Anderson we probably look at a return almost like Anthony Mantha trade roster Player + veterans (cap dump ?) + One ore two pick.

For Petry while I agree is contract killing is value he still would return around second or late first round pick with a mid prospect or low prospect.

Montreal is going to get a nice piece for Anderson. I don't think Tyler Boucher is a nice piece, but hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Let's say Montreal is super high on Boucher and values him as a top 10 pick, like Ottawa (and presumably New York) did. I think the Senators would push for Colin White to go the other way as well. They will need to clear out long term money for budget reasons if they take Anderson. Montreal is interested in Colin White. His former agent is now their GM. Montreal was apparently very close to acquiring him at the trade deadline. The hitch is probably related to which contract the Senators take back to offset White's money. While Anderson isn't a negative value contract, if Ottawa is taking that big money it becomes easier to justify Montreal taking White.

With that said, I think most Senators fans would be disappointed with Josh Anderson as the big acquisition. I think they will be apprehensive about the term, and how consistent he will be throughout the contract. While you can argue that Anderson's play style makes him more valuable than other players who produce more, I think Sens fans are hoping for the big pickup to be a flashier player like a Fiala or a Debrincat. (Sens aren't getting Debrincat in a million years, but that's a name that is brought up).
