David Quinn Helps Bring Some Past Players To Boston

Created by: bruinsdude77
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2022
Published: Jun. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kevin Hayes (NYR 18-19)
Libor Hajek (NYR 18-21)
Jimmy Vesey (NYR 18-19)
Shane Bowers (BU 17-18)
Calvin Pickard (COL/AHL 11-13)
+
Charlie McAvoy (BU 15-17)
Matt Grzelcyk (BU 13-16)
Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (BU 15-17)
Steven Fogarty (NYR 18-20)
+
Ryan O'Reilly (COL 12-13) in summer '23 to replace Bergeron?

- Hayes' contract is bad, but in his hometown under the HC who was in charge during his best NHL season, he has a chance to improve and possibly move back to center. Bergeron and/or Krejci could be gone again in 23-24 and who knows what the cap situation will look like for adding a UFA.
- If DeBrusk's trade request holds even though Cassidy is gone (I don't believe it will but anyway) Konecny is an upgrade imo and you can leverage taking Hayes' contract and sending a pile of young assets to get him in a swap for DeBrusk.
- With Hayes as a middle-six option, the B's can trade Smith's expiring contract now. Bowers has not been great as a pro thus far, but is a buy-low prospect for a team lacking in upside down the middle
- Hajek looked to be up-and-coming under Quinn before riding the bench this year. The Rangers may not qualify him, which is really what I'm expecting here rather than getting into the dirty QO business. With the Bs' blue line injuries, he can play early then provide depth late as a cheap piece that Quinn trusts
- Pickard is a nice vet No. 3 who also isn't too good for Keyser not to get his needed reps in Providence
- Vesey is another cheap vet and like Hayes is a Boston native who had his best NHL season under Quinn in New York
- I have no idea if JFK would come back or if the B's want him after underwhelming progress in Europe, but its a fun idea under Quinn who had JFK looking like a superstar at BU

4 years is way too long to agree to retain over 2 million. I'd be curious if Philly would consider some sort of Hayes/Foligno deal but they aren't retaining

Flyers decline, Hayes has much more value at 5M x 4
