Oilers Nowtime

Created by: Jeff8ham
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2022
Published: Jun. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keeping it as realistic as possible (sorry, no trade for a Vezina goalie, ain’t gonna happen!). Unsure how Kane arbitration pans out so will assume the Sharks are stuck with his contract and because of their own Cap hell and can’t afford a buyout, will be forced to offload Kane to the Oilers with overpriced assets (Kane & Foegele) coming back and a bit retained.
Ok, some incredible luck required here- Smith and Keith BOTH retiring (wasn’t sure how to show that so moved them to LTIR), and Campbell, Rodriquez, and Mikheyev and Kulak all signing for a little less than their optimum contracts. Counting on a tight UFA market this year because of CAP pressures throughout the league.

Mikheyev wants around 4 to 5 million Soo that will probably never happen same as Campbell, he wants around 5 million or more. Sooo you’d pretty much get neither of them

I’m a little confused at the kane situation and how he’s still linked to the sharks, but one thing I’m sure of is Campbell is getting much more than $3.5 million/yr lol

Sharks aren’t taking 2 cap dumps to gift Edmonton a potential 40 goal scorer and $4.5M in retention.

one very real scenario is his old contract with the sharks is reinstated, if that happens then he goes back to san Jose with the remaining portion of his deal (7 mil for 3 years)
kassian would require a 2nd for us to take him and kane retained would cost a 1st. no less.

The Sharks don't exist to help Edmonton. Kane's importance to Edmonton is really big and Sharks will not be taking two very bad players on bad contracts AND retaining to move a 30 goal scorer. We don't know the outcome yet but I can tell you this scenario is very delusional from Oilers fans.

Potential outcomes are:

Kane's contract is voided and SJ is free and clear of his cap and Kane can sign where he pleases. ( in this scenario, he won't come cheap)
Kane's contract gets reinstated with SJ and the Sharks will either trade his contract or, who knows maybe he plays for the Sharks (doubtful)
OR, Kane and SJ reach a settlement outside of the arbitrator and Kane mutually agrees to terminate the deal.

Either way, San Jose will not be retaining millions and taking more than one cap dump back. This is pure fantasy from Oilers fans. Kane with retention will cost a 1st + from Edmonton. Remember this is a divisional trade and the team receiving the best player in the deal will not be getting it done cheaply. It also won't be Doug Wilson making the deal it will be the new GM looking to impress his owner with a major move. This is reality, enter.

I'm confused on the Kane thing as well. Every article I've read on it says the Sharks may have to pay some to all of the voided contract, but not one said a word about him reverting back to the Sharks. He's basically suing them for damages, not his job back.

Kane can rot in the Minors before we take EDM cap dumps back plus retention

Please read above.

I did read above and I also read the breakdown on NBC sports -

"At stake is the entirety of Kane’s contract, both money owed and the cap hit. In short, it’s all or nothing for both the Sharks and Kane. If the Sharks win and the termination is upheld, they’re free and clear of all obligations to Kane. If Kane wins and the termination is overturned, the Sharks owe him the balance of his contract.
The balance of his contract, according to a source, is minus what Kane makes with another team over the duration of this contract."

'This is only one of the potential scenarios in space where there are many possible outcomes. Read all of them so you don't come away with only one POV.
