The Rangers will never win a cup with the Breadman. He is Mike Gartner revisited. I don't know how old you are, but Mike was a career 700 goal scorer. In the NYR 94' Cup year, the Rangers launched Mike out of the torpedo tube at the trade deadline and brought in several of Messier's former grit guys from his days with the Oilers. Ditto with personnel from coach Mike Keenan's Blackhawks. Combined they maybe scored 300 career goals. The New York Oiler-Hawks won the 94' cup. Mike Garner never did. In addition, no NHL team with someone commanding $10M has ever won a cup. Move him to the Isles were they have grit and plenty of finishers might give them a shot. The Isles are getting long in the tooth so I wanted to make the offer attractive. But in return for lowering the salary. and getting less scoring in return, a first rounder was appropriate. Knowing the Isles have a early first rounder this year, I wanted to further incent them by accepting their first round pick next year. The two contracts are same length and Anders brings good scoring and grit, and frees some cash for the Rangers to replace some of the difference in scoring. It would certainly get both fan bases revved up for the coming year. Speaking as a hockey fan for 65 years,, I truly believe the proposed trade would improve both teams. Regarding Georgy and Vitali, the Rangers cannot afford to keep Georgy and he would get more playing time in Detroit than New York. Vitali is disgruntled, and a cancer in the Ranger clubhouse. In Detroit, he'll get a fair shot to make headlines. The Detroit fans seem amenable based on the responses. In an actual negotiation I would try to get a better pair of draft picks. Finally, Panarin's contract is a another Jeff Gorton disaster. Jeff must of graduated from the from the Glen Sather school of GMs. Sather never could have assembled the great Oiler teams in the NHL. The core of that team was established as a WHA franchise. In New York, as GM, Sather always overpaid. Drury needs to clear the deck. If it were up to me, I would launch Trouba too. The Rangers already have five strong, young defensemen in Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider, and Lundqvist. I'd retain 25% of Trouba's salary and free $6M to work on the offense. That's for the next edition.
