Winnipeg isn't retaining on Scheifele and certainly not for that offer.

I have revisited the deal. Included Coronato and had another team doing the retention. How do we feel now?

It's a lot of moving pieces, but I'm sure the Jets are at least talking.

Monahan won't be on LTIR. Add him to the Jets trade, remove the retention and one of Dube/Valimaki. Dont over pay Kylington

As of right now I’m leaving Monahan on LTIR. I don’t think he’s gonna play again . You’d have to pay the nets to take him. And he’s on LTIR so I’d I remove the retention, scheifele puts them over the cap, same as taking dube and valimaki out. As for Kylington, he was the top flames d for most of the year. 4M is quite reasonable for him.

I understand your hesitation on Monahan but he is very likely to come back. So for now lets call that moot since whether he is in the trade or done playing his cap hit wont be there.

With Kylington he was definitely not the Flames best defense for most of the year. He was serviceable in a top 4 role. He's an offensive defensman that only had 18 points since January 1st (57 games). That doesnt get you 4M at his age. Max he should get is 2.5M x 1 year.

With the cap saved by not overpaying Kylington + shaving 1M off Gaudreau and Mangiapane you can now remove the retention from Scheifele. That leaves 1.3M cap space. Remove the Carpenter contract and you are now within 200k of fitting Dube

Ok but here’s the new question. Why would/should Gaudreau and Mangiapane take less after the seasons they just had? If you wanna give them less, they’d be more apt to just not sign. Gaudreau could make more in the open market. Mangiapane is an RFA, but if you’re locking him in for term he’s not just going to say “ah it was only one season, I’ll take less”.

Take less? They aren't taking discounts lol, and neither of them has been paid more than that yet. 76M is a lot of money, especially in a flat cap. That would put him as the 15th highest paid player in the league (14th if you exclude Weber who's retired now). You are offering him 84M which would make him the 6th (5th w/o Weber) highest paid player and tied with Kane, Toews, and Price. We all see how those contracts have aged questionably or even bad. Especially the Price one where unlike Kane and Toews he doesn't have a cup ring.
For arguments sake say it's 9.75M per year instead of 9.5, that would make him a higher paid player than Tavares. So unless you think he is getting over 11M on the market with a contender then no he probably won't make more.

As for Mangiapane, there are ample examples of contracts to use to project his next deal and there is no chance he gets more than Buchnevich. The recent Rust contract will be more in line with what he will get

If you think Gaudreau can’t get more you’re crazy. A team like NJ or Buffalo can easily offer him 11M, and it would be a deal that would happen. The guy put up 115 points on the season, teams will pay for that. Mangiapane himself is on his biggest deal of his career as an RFA, he will be paid. Also, it is not a flat cap as the cap is going up again. If you want Gaudreau, you are going to have to pay for him.

Did you not read the part where I said contender? Neither of Jersey or Buffalo are playoff teams and as long as they have ECHL level goaltending it will stay that way even with Gaudreau. I also said "more than 11M" because 11M on the market is equal to 9.5M in Calgary

Mangiapane will get paid, at least 5M but not more than 5.5M this isn't hard to figure out.
