Still Room for Chychrun

Created by: tkecanuck341
Team: 2022-23 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022
Published: Jun. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kings can't afford Chychrun's cap hit at the beginning of the season, but they'll be able to fit his pro-rated contract if they wait until around January 1.

The following season, Quick's contract and Phaneuf's buyout both fall off the books, allowing them to fit his full cap hit.

might get it done, but they might ask for a roster player as well for Chych.

I feel like its not impossible to think Arizona would retain 2.3M on Chychrun's contract for the right return.

I think the Kings would rather just wait. They can afford him in 2023-24, they just need a bit of time to fit him in next season.

I don't think there's any worry that the Kings won't make the playoffs next season, so they just need him to be on board in time for the playoffs. Not worth giving up an extra asset to get Arizona to retain for 3 seasons when the only cap concern is next season.

Not sure which roster players LA have to give up that Arizona would have any interest in.

The problem with this idea is do you really want to roll with: Anderson, Bjornfot, and Moverare until the deadline? We could be out of a spot by the deadline.

Especially if Walker is LTIR until around the deadline.

Walker is expected back in time for training camp. They can always sign an aging veteran guy to a one-year deal.

I think if the Kings learned any lesson from last season is that they can still win games with an AHL defense.

If they want Kupari instead of ****emo, I could see the Kings still going for that.

True, if Blake had boxes to check I think he got physicality and top-line scoring checked with Fiala. What's left is special teams expertise and left-defense scoring (with eventually getting Chychrun). So beginning of the season pairings if we went this route:

Anderson-Doughty

Walker-Roy

Bjornfot-Durzi

Moverare (or budget dman)

I could see that. But that's alot hinging on us getting Chychrun.

Walker would have to be traded at the beginning of the season. They can't afford his per-diem cap hit and still fit Chychrun.

Oh man, not a lot of options in free agency that I'd like at near minimums:

Kulak? Gustafsson?

Honestly, it's going to be difficult to see realistically unless Kempe takes a discount or we move from Iafallo. Because I still think they want to sign Lemieux as well.

I can't see them moving Iafallo to fit Lemieux. More likely they'd just bring up Helenius early.
