I don't think anyone is taking Vlassic.

Burns is still good, but I think SJ will have to retain closer to 50%.

They do somewhat. It Kane had been bad or even average with EDM, you'd be right. But with the way he lit it up there along with his playoff performance, teams are very interested in having him and will pay up to trade for him especially since they'd be able to negotiate with SJ and have him at ~5mil with SJ retaining ~2mil instead of signing Kane for free but at his market value of ~7milx3yrs (his current contract, which, on a side point, says that DW's Kane contract really was pretty fair after all), which gives SJ some leverage. This is all of course assuming that the Kane arbitration situation doesn't end in SJ's favor.

How about Armia and Hoffman for Vlasic and a 1st 2022 and 2nd 2023

I thought of bringing in Armia as part of the deal. But Vlasic's been a decent bottom pairing guy, and SJ would pay to shed his contract. Armia's contract coming back to SJ could have worked if there was only 1 year remaining instead of 3. But attaching their #11 overall 1st rounder for 3.5mil in cap relief for the next few seasons makes zero sense for SJ given that they could simply buy out Vlasic to save roughly the same cap space for free without having to attach any 1st rounder or asset at all. Hoffman ofc is a nonstarter (EK65). Byron could be an option though.

There's a decent chance a deal of this sort could get done, but it hinges entirely on Carey Price going on LTIR and/or retiring. To be fair, that's a decent possibility too.

Habs can go over 10% of the cap during the offseason. S0 the trade could happen (and id want it to). Anderson and Petry traded which should happen will allow the Habs to stay under the cap come traning camp. In which, they can make more moves to lower cap (Byron, Armia, Hoffman) or toss Price onto LTIR
