I'd think Ottawa protects Forsberg and expose Murray and/or Gustavsson

Yeah, I also didn’t know who to take from Ottawa. I think they would be smart again with their goalies like in the Seattle expansion draft but Gustavsson isn’t a bad option either. Ottawa would probably move Gustavsson before the expansion draft so 🤷‍♂️.

Calgary would go Tkachuk Mangiapane Lindholm Dube Toffoli Coleman Backlund(assuming Lucic would waive) Gaudreau is a UFA
Hanifin Andersson Kylington/Tanev(pay to protect the other)

This is a good team, but if the last two expansion drafts say anything it’s that the wild will be protecting dumba, because we would protect Kaprizov, Hartman, Zuccarello, Boldy, Ekk, Rossi, Jost and for defenseman protect Spurgeon, Brodin, Dumba, in this scenario Addison isn’t on the roster and Rossi is, now if he was I think we would protect 6 forwards and 4 defenseman, as well we would protect Talbot because he is out only goalie.

Right, and as a wild fan I am ok with giving either of those guys up, but I think if we were to resign Middleton he would be available and I’m not sure if I like that all too much, and they could still take decent pieces in the bottom 6 too, like duhaime, maybe even greenway depending on who they were to protect, I think the last two to be protected is greenway or Jost, both solid players that would suck to lose

If the league gets to 40 teams, does the 40th team have to choose 39 guys for their roster? That seems excessive.

That’s for the future generations to figure out. In all seriousness, the league figures something out where certain teams get to give up players and others don’t, which doesn’t seem fair but it could be standings based where bottom feeders protect everyone and the good ones give up a guy. That’s my guess.

Jost would be a great role player for an expansion team and I loved him during his time in Colorado. Greenway would also be a nice depth piece in the early years and Duhaime wouldn’t be bad either. Personally, I wouldn’t go for Middleton but that’s me.
