Description
I think this is a really dangerous team. Contracts might be off a touch, but tried my best.

Forwards:
Miller is a great addition to center depth. Maybe throw in a 3rd pick to sweeten the deal, but nothing more imo. I really hope the Caps don't go for Kadri (too expensive for only one amazing year).
Forsberg would be great, but I just see it as so unlikely that I am avoiding it.
I am weary of signing Nichushkin honestly because I know everyone right now is high on him. For less than $6mil, I think he is a good addition. Anything more, I would rather go for Ilya or Nino for cheaper.
Namestnikov adds that 15+ goal scoring depth that I do not think Snively, Leasson, Protas, or AJF can produce.

Goalies:
Husso is a little bit of a risk, but I think Kuemper will be priced out and I don't love anyone else all that much.
Maybe Varly / Gibson in a trade, but I went with Husso.

Defense:
I think the Caps have to sign a LHD. Alexeyev just had surgery, Johansen is not proven - need a "vet" present to shore up the defense.

When Wilson comes back, here are my forward lines:
Ovi - Kuzy - Nichushkin
Mantha - Miller - Wilson
Namestnikov - McMichael - Oshie
Sheary - Dowd - Hathaway

That is a pretty weak offering for JT Miller. Swap out Eller for McMichael or Iorio, then it might happen.

Then I hope the Caps say no and sign someone (Copp, Kadri depending on price, or Trocheck) during free agency. Because Lap, 20th overall pick in a deep deep draft, and either McMichael (will be a future 2c center) or Iorio (potential top 4 RHD) is too high in my view.

I heard Rangers are in on Miller too. Honestly, coming from a Caps fan, I think Rangers will be able to out bid the Caps, by a lot.

I don't disagree with you. That's a big package to give up for a player with only one year left on his contract. However with Backstrom hurt, and OV8 aging, they need to push all their chips in over the next year or two. Good short term, bad long term (unless they can re-sign JT)

And NYR fans think VAN should pay them to take Miller haha I hope JT does end up in NYR just to see their fanbase implode

I mean, Miller is great and all, but if that is the package, Caps should go after Trocheck, Copp, or Kadri and save their assets.

zero chance mcmichael, lapierre, and 20oa are in the package. Maybe Iorio, but that is pushing it. Lapierre, 20oa, and Eller would be a better package than Fiala just got

It's not the package that's the issue, it's what the Canucks need in return. They need defensemen and they need to get younger. Eller is useless to them as he is a 33 year old Centre who is overpaid. To the Canucks, he has negative value. Lapierre is a decent prospect (not blue chip) and is also a Centre. Iorio would be the Canucks' main target (Big RHD who is also a local boy), and they would need someone who fits better for them than Eller.

I notice that Washington also needs some help on depth defense, and might ask for a Travis Dermott or even a Tyler Myers (with $2 - 3Mish retention) in addition to JT in order to sweeten the return package.

That trade package you put together (Iorio/McMichael, Lap, 20th) is just way too much -> I think you are far off there. Maybe Eller, Iorio, and a 1st but even that might be too much for my liking (as RHDs are quite rare). Also, I would double check on your thoughts on Lapierre. He is above a "decent prospect".

FYI: I understand your point with need, but you can flip Eller for a 3rd round pick at the TDL.

Eller would be an instant upgrade over Dickinson at 3c for the canucks and is very fairly paid for what he is with only 1 year left on his contract. Lapierre is still projected as a top of the lineup center, not something that the Canucks' prospect system is exactly swimming in. I get wanting pieces that make more sense, and if Iorio is their main target thats fine. Lapierre + Iorio + 1st would be three premium future assets, something that almost no NHL player (including Eichel, Stone, Fiala, literally any elite player you can think of) has been traded for in the past ~7 years. When you trade a superstar in the NHL, you are always going to get less than you should and some pieces that aren't great fits. Its not like Miller is the perfect fit for Washington either -- he's older, isn't necessarily a true center, and relied a lot on the pp for his scoring last year. What matters is that its the best fit that's out there.
