Detroit Red Wings

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First trade:
Dependant on if they can come to an agreement or not. If they can't and he wants to much money the trade his rights to Detroit who can afford to pay him. I think Deangelo is a really good player and I would love to see him and his style of game on the Red Wings.

Second trade:
Kind of based it off the McDonagh trade. Vegas dumps Martinez and Brossoit for a prospect who has struggled a bit because of injuries and finds himself lower on the depth chart in Detroit and a goalie to play in the AHL.

Third trade:
Dallas gets a good puck moving defenseman who lead Detroit on points two seasons ago. He could use a steady partner and I think Suter or Lindell could be that guy.

Fourth and fifth trade:
Trading for players to get bought out and receiving some compensation for it. Both teams need to clear cap pretty badly. Calgary gives up a second and Florida since they don't have many picks gives up Luostarinen. I think given the opportunity he could develop into a decent middle six player and I feel he's buried with the depth of the Panthers right now.

Free agents:
I signed Colin White giving him a bit of cash and two years of term to take a chance that he could still develop into the player they thought he was going to be. Worst case he is an inexpensive depth player who comes off the book in two seasons.

One of the reasons I signed White and traded for Luostarinen is to give alot of competition for playing time and hopefully spark players to play a bit harder and earn their spots. There will be even more competition once Fabbri returns from injury.

Also, I don't really know what a deal for Deangelo's rights would look like so don't roast me too hard on value there. I feel alot of teams won't be interested with his little contraversy and alot won't be able to afford his salary.

You shouldn't buy out Lucic, it saves you zero cap space

Deangelo had an amazing year last season but there are many other guys I would over pay to play for the Wings

Campbell, Josi....

I'd almost rather have E Kane.

Likely be the only way he agrees to a trade. He could easily submit a list of 10 teams that would never be able to trade for him in order for him to stay in Calgary. This way he could either sign with a new club at league minimum, whether it be back with Calgary if that is even legal, I feel that's still up in the air, or another contending club that feels they could utilize his skill set at league minimum. I also feel it would be the respectable thing to do for a veteran like him. He doesn't deserve to get buried in the minors because I would rather give that roster spot to a younger player.

Well Josi isn't available although he would be amazing. I am honestly really unsure what Deangelo would make. I watched quite a few Carolina games this year and he looked really good every game, plus the playoffs. I just feel if he keeps up the play that the right side of our defence would be set for years to come with those 3.

Also I'm not interested in Campbell at all, he's likely going to get a nice deal with a team but I don't see any reason for it to be Detroit. I think Nedeljkovic is a better goalie that had a really bad team in front of him. I watched him carry the team for more wins than we should have had.

Lucic isn't desperate for a cup ring and is a very humble guy that has already waived his clause twice. He may not waive to Detroit since it's so far from home for him but i would be surprised if he blocks any Seattle, Anaheim, LA, or Vancouver.

If another team buys him put he cannot re-sign with Calgary

Even if the Canes can’t come to an agreement with TDA, he can still get more than a 4th

I wouldn’t mind DeAngelo, even if we had to trade for him, the mid round pick seems appropriate. But man, that extension is horrific. He’s had one decent season, that doesn’t earn you $50m. I could see him signing something like a 3 year deal for $5m a year (max), maybe? Realistically, he’s worth probably right around $3.5m on a short term deal.
