Description
The Gist of the Key moves here; Burakovsky is a fantastic finisher, what Malkin has been missing on his wing for years, him and Rakell finally give him two legit top 6 winger to work with. On D, Petterson had a better year than Dumo and is much younger, a lot of people have them trading Petterson instead but I don't see the sense of that considering both player's trajectories.

For the boldest one: Marino for Petry. Jeff Petry is still capable as a top pairing defensemen, he showed that after the coaching change in Montreal, went right back to putting up the results he's used when St-Louis was put in charge. Petry is the type of major upgrade this team needs along with Burakovsky on offense to meaningfully improve and have a chance at another cup in the 87 era. Having a player like him on a low cap-hit is invaluable for a team in Pitt's position with the cap. I like Marino, but he hasn't shown a ton of improvement since he signed his deal, and I think capitalizing on his value now while he is highly regarded around the league makes sense for them. For the Canadiens, i think this is a good gamble to secure a young high-upside Right D to slot right into your top 4 immediately, with Petry's value a little bit tanked from this past season, they need to add a high third and retain salary get it done.

If Montreal's retaining that much on Petry, I don't think that's the kind of trade they'd make.

Yes, but Hughes will only retain on 1yr remaining deals not 3yr remaining deals

Cool he also sucks, and is much worse than Marino or Petry or even Ruhwedal, so what's the point in that trade?

Depends on how he feels about Marino, if he feels he is a legit top 4/fringe first pair dman, it would be worth using cap space to gain a valuable asset, especially if Marino outperforms 4 million over 5 more years

Problem is, MTL has no cap space. Another reason Hughes won't retain on more than 1yr

he does not suck haha, he would be the perfect d partner for matheson, im not saying move MArino for him 1 for 1, but Savard remains a very solid stay at home dmen, he a right handed dumo that plays physical
