My Pens Moves
Lmao. I suppose every other team in the league is getting in line to trade for the bloated contracts that the Pens don't want
And of course what every team needs is a 3.5 mil bottom six player singed into his mid 30s

Tkachuk as Geno's wing is a dream. This would give them the best second line in hockey along with probably a top 5 first line

Calgary's best option is to rebuild, why would they want a 27 year old whose gonna walk to UFA in 2 years for nothing. If that means that they don't get him, that means someone else is offering a star player.
if the Islanders are offering Barzal + prospects and picks. Just Barzal doesn't cut it, multiple prospects and firsts would probably be preferrable to just Barzal. I could see there being a disconnect here on how much the Islanders are willing to offer in addition to Barzal, don't see Lou going for it.
If the Devils are offering Bratt + prospects and picks. I could see this one.
If the Leaf's are offering Marner. Probably won't happen but fun to think about.
I think if they want premium prospects instead of players, the Wild make a lot of sense with how deep their pool is, Dumba going the other way as well makes the salaries work. CBJ have a pretty deep pool to offer as well. have to get creative or pay a premium to send Voracek the other way, less likely but it would be kinda funny. Kings and Ducks probably have the prospect capital to get it done as well. Overall a lot of teams make more sense as trade partners. But I think throwing in enough picks along with the prospect included above gives the pens a shot. Just my take

I like this option a lot, maybe you have to add a third round pick to make up the value difference between Kap and Pool Party. Also I don't know if it's good business to extend a player during the season then trade him in the off-season. I think Puljujarvi is a great fit for the second line while not having to make room by moving one of Petty or Dumo. Bottom six looks pretty rough though.

Also this guy hates Bjorkstrand and I’m surprised he didn’t trade him.
Honestly Bean isn’t that good, offensively he is good but he is terrible defensively.</div></div>
I don't think anyone wants a top-6 only winger that hasn't scored 20 in 5 years. I would say they'd need to retain a 1-2 million, to a team that has a spot open in their top-6. Which is a better option than buying him out so your right to say trade him, but I think at 5.5 million he has negative value. If Vegas couldn't get anything for Pacioretty, I seriously doubt anyone is looking to trade positive assets for Nyquist, especially at his full cap figure. Also sure, Bean isn't great, so if you trade Bean and nyquist (with $ retained) you could even upgrade the team. Maybe a player like Rodrigues or Milano who would compliment the bottom 6 nicely.

Don't see how Bjorkstrand plays behind Voracek and Nyquist, he's better than both. Buyout Nyquist and you can afford Bean.

Unless it's done to bring in a star level player, I think the Pettersson trades should be over with. The contract they should be trying to move is McGinn. He's expendable.</div></div>
Well if only it was so simple to move McGinn, he's a fourth liner/fringe third liner making 2.75 for the next three years, no team wants his contract. The forward group as is just isn't good enough, and you can't improve it without moving out cap-space, and the obvious ones Mcginn or Zucker would be too expensive to move.

Ther 2LD is Olli Maata who they signed for only 2.3 mil. If they actually want to compete next year which they seem to, Petterson is an upgrade over Maata. Regardless, I'd think there's some team with interest in Petterson, and if not, there should at least be interest in Dumoulin, who I'd prefer to move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>I disagree. 6 x 3 is a fair deal. My heart wants to sign Malkin for whatever he wants, but take emotions out of it and a 4 year deal just dosen't make sense. He hasn't been able to play a full season in a long time and is 36, longer term deals just don't make sense at that point</div></div>
But he's still playing at an elite level, and you need an elite 2c to compete for a cup, so what do you do? Sign trochek, an infinitely worse playoff performer, to a bigger deal? Malkin can easily get 8 million 3 years on the open market, having him for 6 is a bargain, and again, when he produces at the level of as first line centre, by the time he regresses below what you'd expect of a 2C the Pens window will be over. Giving him the extra year to keep the cap down maximizes the window

Lack of opportunity, particularly on the PP (haven’t watched a ton of Avs games)? You think he would get PP time in Pitt? What does his contract look like?
I kept Dumo over pettersson because I feel like it could be big in keeping Letang, he probably wouldn’t like his long time d partner being shipped off. I kept Kapanen over Heinen due to his higher upside in his speed game, if we are going to be able to beat the avalanche we need to have players that can skate like Kappy. Remember he is just one year removed from a 62 point (82 game pace) season. But I didn’t think too hard over either of those moves as it wasn’t the point of this exercise - I have made the opposite decision many times and often flip flop</div></div>
Played third line, didn't get much opportunity to play with Kadri or Mack, also I don't believe he got first unit PP time with Colorado. With Kap/Heinen I get it, but I feel like while Kapenen has upsides, you'll get much better results from Heinen for a middle six role. On Dumo/Letang. I don't think you need to cave to letang's wishes to keep him when your already paying him that money and term. TBH I'm not sold on keeping Letang at this point, his underlying numbers have been on significant decline even though he's still getting the points, I see the contract he eventually signs aging like milk

UFA centric offseason
The way the way these contracts are structured leaves no room to extend Jarry, or afford any suitable starting goalie replacement. Also don't see how Kapenen signs for that little to be buried on the 4th line when A. his QO is 3.2 and B. there will be plenty of teams willing to pay more and offer opportunities to play in the middle 6. Also don't get why you'd replace Heinen who who had a great year and is young and affordable and we have RFA rights to, to replace him with Stastny. Also highly doubt we move 2 left handed defensemen (love the Kulak signing though). Lastly, I see that Copp deal aging horridly, and no idea how he makes that much more than a guy like Blake Coleman last year. Last but not least, no way they'll go into the year with Friedman as their third pair LD, could see POJ in that spot but apparently Hextall/Burke aren't high on them. They wouldn't cut corners on defense AND attach assets to move Zucker's one remaining year just to afford Copp/Nichuskin on bloated deals (although they are both good/great players in their roles).

Fit is with Malkin to me. He's shot over 17% over the last three years with Colorado, which is an insane number for a three year sample size. He's been one of the best finishers in the game for the past three years, and if you give him top minutes with a player like Malkin he's an easy ~35 goal scorer- 40+ with power play minutes. Malkin is still an elite offensive chance creator, only problem is no one he's played with lately can finish chances, this fixes that. Could honestly see Malkin breaking 100 again in a full season with burakovsky and Rakell. If you miss out on Bura, Nino Niederreiter is a really underrated option. Great play driver and good finisher, with second line minutes and playing with Malkin would be an easy 30 goal scorer, better all around player with a less lethal shot, and would likely cost less. Also I'd favour keeping Petterson over Dumoulin, better trajectory and saves a few bucks, as well as Heinen over Kapenen anyways.
