Considering the trades CHI made today, Kane with 50% retention will probably only cost a late 5th and a cap dump.

Right? All these centers and forwards in general and they reach for Korchinski and even worse RINZEL? We couldve had Rinzel with the 38th overall. No one else was going to grab Rinzel in the 1st round, maybe not even the 2nd round.

It depends. He's going to MIN which is obviously a big time college team. I'll give the kid a chance. Just because he's a high school kid doesn't mean he can't have a high ceiling. The one thing KD is doing (not even sure it's on purpose) is drafting some of the youngest kids in the draft. Both Dmen have late June Bdays.

Absolutely. Ill give the kid a chance. But we still probably couldve had him with that 38th overall pick. So we just took Mrazek off of TOR's hands for almost nothing and then wasted the pick on someone that probably wouldve been there in the late 2nd round.

I'm trying to figure out why he's not QOing Strome. Why is he willing to let an asset walk for nothing? Keep him, he builds value, eventually trade him for something, even if you have to retain. I don't get it.

I don't either. The only thing I can think of is that no team is willing to offer a 7th because they believe KD won't sign him.

So sign him, prove them wrong, and hope he continues to improve (However, that's nearly impossible with this roster's trajectory). I don't get it, is he expecting to need roster spots for upcoming players? They don't have any. Is he expecting to acquire tons of bad contracts? If so, why would you play a bad contract (Johnson/Connolly) over Strome? None of it makes any sense.

But that's kinda the point. We certainly can sign him, but it might not be worth it because it's money that might not pan out. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Maybe he still gets traded. I really think they're trying to tank HARD for Bedard/mikchov.

Right? Especially now that we dont have enough NHL ready centers or forwards in general.

I mean, we've watched money not pan out for the last 7 years with Bowman handing guys like Seabrook and Bickell big contracts on the wrong end of their careers (Then trading Seabrook for Tyler Johnson). It's plausible Wirtz is tired of money being wasted, but what do we call the Mrazek cap dump?

I don't know, nothing makes sense.

Are you thinking Mrazek actually helps us win games? It's moving up while tanking. I'm actually surprised they didn't get Kassian too, but we're not the only ones tanking. AZ tanks pretty hard too.

Taking 2 years of a cap dump to move up 13 spots and take a reach of a 25th pick is not really good asset management IMO. Mrazek may return to his Carolina form just because Toronto is absolute hell on earth for goalies.
