Description

GMBM essentially saying that the Caps won't spend Backstrom's LTIR money because they plan on him coming back next year leads me to believe that the Caps will have $10M in cap space just sitting there all year long. Wilson will be back in midway through the year but I doubt this team is going to get to the playoffs. Islanders will take that spot

Haha I spent zero time thinking about value, but that actually makes me feel worse since then the Caps will give up more valuable draft picks for him and still miss the playoffs

If they move eller and put protas in, they can still sign someone relatively substantial instead of namestnikov. I don't think all hope is lost yet

That's more than "a few pieces". Those are key, foundational pieces that you need to spend money on. If we aren't going to do that, we're in trouble.

I like Protas, and as much as people don't like to admit it, he isn't better than Eller is right now. I'd rather move Eller and get a 2C to bump McMichael down to 3C

I agree he isn't better than eller right now but I think Protas + Copp/Malkin/Miller/strome is better than Eller + Namestnikov and they would both be pretty close cap wise.
