Description

If Hughes doubling down on Dach and Slafkovsky pays off and Dubois signs as a UFA in the summer 2024, the new forwards core of the Habs could be sustainably competitive by 2025 :

Slafkovki - Suzuki - Caufield
Dubois - (Likely top-5) 2023 1st - Dach
Farrell / Anderson - Dvorak / Beck - Gallagher / Roy
RHP / Poehling - Evans - Ylonen / Armia

As for the D, if the young core progresses and the Habs surrounds them well if Petry/Edmundson are dealt :

Guhle - Petry / RHD1
Edmundson / LHD2 - Barron
Xhekaj / Harris / Hutson - Savard / RHD3

The G situation is the cloudiest. Unless Price is LTIRed in 2022-2023, the Habs will have a hard time managing the cap before TDL 2023, impacting their capacity to retain salary and optimize the value of its trading assets.

If Price is indeed LTIRed, Allen /Montembault seems like the likeliest tandem. Doubt the Habs trade Allen at TDL if it’s the case. Unless they promote Primeau and go with two young goalie for the last weeks of the season and re-evaluate their need long-term in the summer?
