Description

The idea that Leafs get a starting goalie and get a premium sweetener with retention makes zero sense to me. Sure they tried to move back 9 spots and move him... But that was buffalo just taking a contract, they probably didn't care if he even played. Truthfully this would be a big mistake for the Leafs. The same reason why I wanted Dorion to stay away from Murray 2 years ago is why Dubas should. He'll be hurt for a min 25 to 35 games.

Looking at his contract, seems like this is more about real dollars than cap space.

It's very weird to me that people think Ottawa would retain 50% AND attach a high value asset (ie. 1st round pick or high end prospect). By simply buying out Murray, they'd only be on the hook for $2.5 mil more than if they retaining 50%. The cap hit is actually reasonably palatable as well. Your proposal seems reasonable. Cheers.
