Reboot and Tank Like Mike - Last ACGM Before Free Agency

Created by: areax91
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2022
Published: Jul. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With a new GM, Sharks make their long-awaited tank to get a few picks to bounce back to contention after 2 seasons in the dumps.

TRADES
- Burns is shipped to Carolina. They need a TDA replacement and they'd have the draft capital to make it work.
- Labanc is swapped with Donskoi. Donskoi has one less year on his contract than Labanc, and he can fill in the cap space needed to drop into high draft positions.
- Simek is dumped to another tanking team that needs depth D on the cheap
- Nieto is shipped to a contender. He has an affordable cap hit and he does not fit Grier's vision of skilled but physical play.
- Reimer is shipped to an up-and-coming playoff team. He's in better form than Hill, and he can be used in a trade to upgrade picks and burn off bad contracts.
- Bonino is shipped to an up-and-coming team looking for veteran leadership.

SIGNINGS
- Re-sign all qualified RFAs
- Deslauriers is signed. He can protect rookies and he can be flipped to a playoff team on deadline day.

AFTER THE SEASON
- Buyout Vlasic and Zaitsev
- Trade for an additional 1st round pick in the 2023 draft
- Use the $12M+ cap space to QO Meier, Merkley, Knyzhov, Reedy and Mann
- Look for potential trade interest for Couture and EK65, keeping in mind the likelihood of retaining salary for either one

San Jose seems to the retirement home for Couture, Vlasic, Karlsson, and Burns. Don't know if Burns would want to move to East Coast.
The other three are virtually untradeable due to NTCs and 50% retention.

Interesting trade for Carolina. Not sure we really want to move Gardiner or a 1st but something I personally would take a look at.

Gardener and Donny aren’t the type of player Grier is looking to add, even in exchange.

Don’t need to trade for Zaitsev when you can get Zadorov for cheaper in FA.
