How Gaudreau becomes an Islander

Description
Disclaimer: Reports are the Flames have offered 10 mil. But there are also reports he wants to be closer to home, most likely Philly, but possibly the Islanders or Devils.

Canadiens are looking to add. I think adding Beauviller goes a long way with them. Also they trade their extra picks in Vegas 4th and Avs 2nd.

Washington might not be the destination for Varlamov. But there will be a team (Either Buffalo, Capitals, Oilers, etc.) that will finish free agency without a goalie. At that point they will need to add a reliable goalie so the season isn't a waste. We might not get a 1st for Varlamov, but a 2nd should happen. I base the 1st off of Kuemper's deal last year.

The reason Dobson and Romanov sign 2 year deals is to A) bet on themselves, and B) because in 2 years Bailey, Martin and Clutterbuck all come off the books opening up an extra 7.25 mil.

I don't think Gaudreau will end up signing here, but there is space for him.

Montreal is looking to sell at forward and don't have cap or roster space for a winger. Capitals also seem to be the destination for Kuemper.

Yeah you are right about Kuemper, but at this point that is speculation. I could see Buffalo offering him a good amount leaving Washington high and dry. I wrote that in my disclaimer at the talk. There will be a team (not necessarily Washington) who needs a goalie. So if we are going after Gaudreau, we should be able to trade Varlamov and get a decent price.

As for Montreal and Beauvillier, yes that's true. But reports are that Kent Hughes wanted to add 2-3 more players. I chose Montreal in a Beauvillier day because of the french connection, but there should be a market for Beauvillier for at least a 3rd round pick, hopefully closer to a 2nd +

I agree, I wrote in my disclaimer that there are reports that the Flames already offered over 10 mil. Other reports (like I mentioned if you read it) say he wants to go closer to home, likely one of Philly, Isles or Devils. So if that is the case, it becomes a bidding war between those 3 teams which may bring his price tag down.

IMO Beauvillier has more value than Bailey. There's speculation that the Islanders would need to give up assets to move Bailey who honestly is a great 2nd line player (which I find silly). Beauvillier being younger (and only 850k cheaper) likely has value enough to get a 2nd round pick in return, instead of us giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick to move Bailey.

I completely agree. Philly is my bet on the landing spot as well. I just did this on reports that the Islanders are a front-runner (not the front runner, but one of a few teams). Just wanted to show that the Islanders can make it work without screwing up our team or longer term outlook.

2. NY Islanders
3. Philly

I don’t think it’ll be a 2nd or 3rd to move him you could probably give him to Chicago for less they need players and need to get to the cap floor
