The picks would all be for the same year, they aren't spread out. Dangerous gamble for Buf, they miss the Playoffs next year and win the lottery STL gets that pick.

Please read the COMPLETE compensation package. Your offer would be 4 first round picks, Now, still want to do the deal?

Where do you come up with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders as compensation? Probably on the same page. But as I suggested read the COMPLETE article. One reason why there are so few offer sheets.

    He's correct with the 4 1sts. Your AAV would be $9.45m. $9,388,080 AAV is the cutoff for 2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd range. $7,510,464 is the max AAV for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd you've offered.

So $7.5mx5, $6.25mx6, or $5.36mx7 is about the max you could offer for the picks you gave up.

It would be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in 2018 under this current playing years compensation rules. This is not a big risk as Buffalo seems to never win the lottery. I wonder if other RFA's would be a better fit for Buffalo.

You're forgetting about the total contract is divided by 5 years part of the offer sheet.

    I understand now...

So 7 years x $6,500,000 = 45,500,000... but the rule states you divide the total compensation by the number of years or until 5 years. that would give us $9,100,000.

    My bad

Yeah the blues cap situation sucks, but they will pretty much do anything to make room for him. I bet they would unload picks on Vegas or another team with space just to take some of our larger, bad contracts.

The Blues aren't that bad capwise, they have Parayko to resign but nothing else expensive. Signing an impact UFA is out of the question without some moves. Wild, Hawks, NYR, etc have a FUBARed cap situation going on for them.
