Finish off the perfect offseason

Created by: Edmontonian
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2022
Published: Jul. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Missing piece to becoming a true contender is still another top 4 LD, hopefully the Oilers can use Foegeles salary plus their surplus of first round picks to get one at 50% retention at the trade deadline.

If the Dallas trade doesnt work out you can always send Barrie to another team even if it ends up being a cap dump where you have to give up a mid-late round pick to push it through.

Trades
EDM
  1. Hakanpää, Jani
  2. 2023 4th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
The Oilers no longer have a need for Barrie as Evan Bouchard has stepped into his role. Hakanpaa is a cheap defensemen who is much steadier in his own end and can cover up the mistakes of the young puck moving Broberg.
DAL
  1. Barrie, Tyson
Additional Details:
Dallas needs to find a cheaper replacement for Klingberg as both Robertson and Oettinger need to be signed. If I were a stars fan I would personally want my team to look for under the radar offensive defensemen closer to the 2-3 million range but the stars aren't a very creative franchise. I'm expecting a lot of "Dallas declines" comments but if they need a top 4 right handed offensive defensemen who specializes in the PP for under 5 million and wont cost a lot of assets here he is. If Klingberg is still available and lowers his asking price I would 100% choose him over Barrie.

I'd personally go long-term on McLeod. Trust me- He's gonna ask more 2 years from now

Strome likely goes for less, if he does it would be perfect to sign McLeod for 4-5 years at 2M AAV
I really like the hakanpaa trade although i suspect we might be the ones needing to give up the pick

Ye I was thinking Strome could go for even 3 mil, reports are right now that he is just looking for the right fit which I think is likely Edmonton or Toronto. I just wanted to be fair because if you look at his stats he actually had a good season. If he wasn't considered a "reclamation" project I think he wouldve been offered 4x4 by now from some team.

I personally would as well but I dont think McLeods camp wants that haha smile

We all realize his potential under Woodcroft as does he, I think he is probably looking for a bridge knowing he can make more than 2 million in 2 years. We as fans have to recognize that it isn't super appealing for a promising young forward that he has basically no chance to ever crack our top 6 or 1st line PP. I'm suspecting a bridge deal and eventually we just cant afford him and have to trade his rights :/

If Ken Holland wants to pull another masterclass this offseason and sign him long term on that kind of deal though then grin

Dallas accepts

Edit: I believe they’d be up against the cap after this deal (still need to sign Robo and Oetter) but trading Khudobin will do that, and if no one will take him with a sweetener (also doubt everyone passes) then they can buy him out

Why are people so hot after Strome that they're paying $8M for him? He's slow and was zoomed by Kane and Chicago couldn't find a taker at his $3.6M QO so they let him walk.
