Hawks aren't giving up valuable draft picks for middle aged or older players; they are rebuilding on a 5 to 6 year plan. That said, I like Compher since he grew up in my hometown and as fun as it would be to have him in a Hawks sweater, unless the Avs are dumping him and paying the Hawks or making it a deal they can't refuse in effort to flip him for a lot more value, I don't see it happening.

Compher has value, the Avs aren't going to pay someone to take him. Make it a 4th and a B prospect or whatever works. Also doesn't have to be the Hawks.

Why? They can run a 21 man roster as I have in this example, MacD being the 21st and being counted against the cap.

The irony is the Hawks are trying to get worse. Compher makes them better. Hawks probably value that 3rd more unless they feel Compher can net them more assets at TDL.

True enough - players injured while playing in the NHL but not going to LTIR count against the cap, right?

one thing to remember: MacFarland and Sakic aren't panicking. They'll wait this out as long as it takes to get a good deal, if they have the advantage. Duchene took FOREVER. They waited out Mikko and Gabe. They didn't overpay for Darcy or Phil.

My sense is the Avs hold the cards and are offering Naz a discounted deal and his agent, Darren Ferris is telling him to go for more with CGY but Naz doesn't want that. So we wait.

GMCM has plenty of options, both internal and external. CGY also does currently employ two top six C, so they are not necessaeriy rushed either. It will take a decision from Naz to get thia done.
