Description
Detroit fans probably gonna hate this trade. Tuomisto being a high 2nd round pick. So was Pettersson though; 38th overall.

And Ya, I understand. I remember you all drooling over Tuomisto and his size after the draft. Even though, he was mostly ranked and seen as a 3rd-4th round pick.

Pens system is just lacking RHD prospects badly. I wouldn’t mind a 3rd round pick but would prefer a prospect and a 5th or 6th. And Tuomisto hasn’t been great in college. Seems like a good two way, penalty killing D-man. Probably a No.4 or 5 NHL D-man that kills penalties.

Pettersson is still just 26 years old and signed next season plus two more. At 4.025M per. Basically 4M per(plus 25K..lol). With what quality NHL D-man are getting paid now-a-days, it’s a good contract.

Chariot/Moritz and Pettersson/Hronek would make good parings right now until Edvinsson comes along. Pettersson’s stay at home and puck moving abilities compliment Hronek well. Maatta moves to 3rd pairing LHD.

Pens didn’t a LHD or RHD until they did..lol.

And Detroit rebuild seems to be just about over. Their signings this offseason proved that. I wouldn’t trust Maatta with 2nd pairing minutes anymore. But ok.

And Chiarot struggled with 1st pairing minutes and a 1st pairing role in Florida.

Larkin, Raymond and Seider seem like pieces to build around. And Hronek, Copp, and Bertuzzi are nice complimentary pieces(unless Bertuzzi gets dealt). With acouple more nice secondary pieces.

And waves of those prospects are gonna be coming through in a year or two.

You feel competitive this season with Maatta at 2nd pairing LHD??

What a defensive 4th line if they sign Larsson(like what was already reported).

98 defense on this card.

I know Pettersson is a whipping boy on this site but he’s still just 26 year old, 6’3, long stick, long reach, moves the puck well (look at his assists every season), plays physical, has a good shot (he’s 6’3 so he better), has playoff experience, and has good analytics.

The Wings are not going to trade their only legit RD prospect for a LD upgrade now. Not with their depth of LD prospects and need to allow flexibility to tryout some of them in the NHL to see how they do.

Personally I would have preferred Petterson over Chariot but that wasn't the choice Stevie Y made. But with that choice made they are committed to it, so one matter how good Petterson is he is no longer a fit in Detroit unless something changes.

I feel competitive with him to start and by December Edvinsson taking that spot over and maata being the 3rd D

Ya, I completely agree. But “when” Edvinsson is taking that spot. Stevie Y has said he doesn’t like playing rookies but he’s definitely shown difffernt. With Seider and Raymond.

But they really forced his hand too. I hope Edvinsson does too. That would be super fun to watch. Both him and Seider being so young.

I bet Stevie Y makes a move on defense still though. Whether that’s signing a UFA depth piece or making trade.

Maatta hasn’t averaged over 16 minutes a game for a season since 2019. 3 years running now he’s averaged 16 minutes per game or under.

That leaves a lot of LHD minutes for Chiarot who struggled when given big 1st line minutes and a 1st line role in Florida last season.

They have wallman and oesterle who can play as well as edvinsson the only trade they are going to make would be to ship someone out not take someone in. He's all but done at this point. He has 15 forwards and 8 D right now, someone will get shipped out if anything

Yep, I’m very aware of Wallman and Oesterle(and Jared McIsaac).

Thanks for the opinion though!! I just disagree. I guess we’ll see!! Good luck this season.

And I’ll admit I’m sure you know the RedWings better than me if that’s your team. I do follow the NHL, the draft and prospects pretty closely though.

But again, if that’s your team, you definitely watch them more often and read more about them than I do. So u are probably right.

I can just see a world where Detroit upgrades their LHD. And Stevie Y’S been pretty active the last couple years. Pens didn’t need a RHD or LHD until they did..lol.

I wish the Nedeljkovic trade worked out better last season. I really thought that was a steal; and so did everyone else at the time.

I hate to say it but Husso seems like the same exact thing. A young goalie, same age, similar style, with one hot season.
