After missing out on Cat, Fiala, and Gaudreau, I’d much rather the Isles pivot towards another young forward rather than trading for a veteran like Kane, Miller, or Tarasenko (if he’s even available). I don’t know if San Jose would want to trade Meier, but it feels like a similar situation for DeBrincat where both are due for a big pay raise and although are young, don’t exactly fit the team’s rebuild timeline. Although Meier is only 25, San Jose is probably looking for even younger guys to build around. Maybe he’s untouchable and my take is completely wrong, but those are just my thoughts. Package for him is similar to Cat, but I think it’ll be a bit more expensive because San Jose has more leverage in this scenario than Chicago did when they traded Cat.
