The ability to get Nelson would be a plus, but you've downgraded the 2nd line and severely downgraded the defense. I understand the cap space not having Seabrook would mean, but he's still a top 4 dman on a playoff caliber team.

By retaining a million on RNH the oil are essentially paying nearly $8 million per year for the next 4 years on a 32 year Brent Seabrook.

I do get the thought of making moves, trading salary to get space and younger and/or better players, but the reality is why would the Oilers want Seabrook at 6.8M per year when they could have a younger Shattenkirk for around that, or possibly get Alzner for less per year? McDavid is going to get expensive in a short amount of seasons, they'll need the cap space and having $14M tied up in Lucic & Seabrook for their past-prime years would be a huge mistake on their part.
Plus the Blackhawks need Seabrook's size out there.

So Edmonton is going to pay close to $7 million per to Seabrrok for the next 7 years or so, Plus give Draisaitl close to $7 million per long term and then McDavid another $10 million per long term in another year or so Chia would be foolish to do that.

This is my thinking. I feel like Seabrook would be a great addition, but his contract would be a bad one for EDM
