CBJ facilitate Nashville on a Tkachuk trade

Created by: benjgc
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2022
Published: Jul. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is my attempt at a three-way deal that accomplishes everyone's goals, or at least tries to. CBJ get the upgrade in their top 4 on D they crave and clear cap for a Laine deal, Nashville lands Tkachuk and clears the space to sign him to a long-term deal, and Calgary gets a haul of two first-rounders (I didn't factor in protection, etc.), an established and excellent young player in Tomasino, a Calgary native D in Bean, two solid middle-6 wingers who can help right now in Nyquist and Sissons, a reclamation winger in Bemstrom who plays good D, and a top scoring prospect in Evangelista. Nashville and Calgary fans, feel free to tell me how dumb I am. Columbus fans, you can go ahead and do that too.

CGY gets:
- NSH 2023 1st-rounder
- NSH 2024 1st-rounder
- CBJ 2024 2nd-rounder
- Gustav Nyquist
- Jake Bean
- Philip Tomasino
- Colton Sissons
- Emil Bemstrom (RFA rights)

NSH gets:
- Matthew Tkachuk (RFA rights, signed here to a potential 8x10 deal)

CBJ gets:
- Mattias Ekholm (33% retained by NSH)
- Luke Prokop

NSH rejects. They're giving up way too much here.

Tomasino was their top prospect til he played this past season-- then it was Evangelista last year (though Kemmel may overtake him in that regard now). And Prokop is their best RHD prospect. Then you're asking for a retained Ekholm on top of that plus another roster player in Sissons and 2x 1sts.

NSH could get Tkachuk without the help of CBJ, although I'm not sure how you're helping out NSH here to begin with-- it just makes the deal worse for NSH honestly.

Ekholm's gonna have to get shipped out in order for Nashville to realistically clear enough cap to add Tkachuk while still having cap space for TDL additions. Sissons is another name that reputable writers (i.e. not me) have been mentioning in a Tkachuk deal to help move money.

I think I may have been a touch overzealous in what NSH was giving up, but that's out of (1) a lesser understanding of Nashville's players and prospects and (2) a desire not to get killed by Flames fans. If we yank out Prokop and Sissons, it might still work in terms of the $$$. Again, this is a tricky one, with lots of moving parts, so it's deeply unlikely, but I wanted to take a stab at it.

If I were to make a Tkachuk deal for NSH:
- L'Heureux or Svechkov or Evangelista (whichever they prefer)
- 1st
- 2nd
- Prokop
- Tolvanen
- If they want a top 6 guy like Granlund, I could include him as well but maybe take out the 2nd or Tolvanen or something

That's how I would start it at least. And likely one of Granlund or Ekholm would have to be moved in a separate deal (unless included). Something like Ekholm for Foote + 2nd from NJD or Granlund for a 2nd + Ranta from COL if they don't sign Kadri. Deals like that.

That's what I was trying to accomplish with the "Ekholm to Columbus" idea, with the notion that Bean, Nyquist, Bemstrom, and the CBJ 2024 2nd could relieve some of the price to acquire Tkachuk.

Yeah, that's too much from the Preds. But if this could be balanced, I WANT IT.
