Description
Honestly, I think this would be an absolute haul for Calgary..

I really feel Detroit is one of the strongest trade suitors for the Flames with their plethora of prospects to choose from.

I don’t see Bertuzzi in the deal… He likes Detroit, Detroit likes him… I don’t see him signing right away if traded when he’s one year from UFA… It doesn’t make sense for Flames to trade for a player who could walk... Plus is the vaccination thing maybe still an issue who knows…

Vrana at least has two years left on his deal to replace some production lost in the immediate term…

After that it’s kinda take your pick of top prospects not named Edvinsson or Kasper…

I think Joe Veleno and Fil Zadina make tons of sense as they’ve already just become ready NHLers but still with good projected growth in their games to be solid pros for a long time… and importantly still under lots of team control. I think Berggren and Neiderbach could be interchangeable also.

Then of course some draft picks will be involved…

You have to offer something of value

I get it.. it still stings...
I feel like whatever you guys get in return probably won’t ever feel like enough to you on this one… no matter what, the hearts of the team and the fans have still just been ripped out..

You can’t say it’s NO value tho. It’s four 1st round picks… i was trying to come with a legit offer and I honestly thought this is pretty dece when looking at recent comparables…

What would you be after??

I think that that is actually too much from Detroit. Veleno and having a conditional 2023 1st plus the 2024 2nd are my issue. I do like the fact you included 2 middle six wingers as the Wings have too many right now (Vrana, Bertuzzi, Perron, Kubalik, Zadina, Rasmussen--he's a winger not a centre last year proved that-- Fabbri, Sundqvist, and Berggren). The trade might hinge on what Calgary see's Zadina's worth to be.

Calgary is in a weak bargaining position. The places that can take Tkachuk's cap hit (and has a roster spot and cap room without moving a player out) is limited. I think Gaudreau's contract proved that. I think Calgary should get back at most:
20-30 goal scorer 2nd line player + young NHL player with upside + NHL ready prospect + pick(s)

You gave them:
Vrana + Zadina+ none fitting that part + 2x high picks but then went further when you threw in another young player with upside--Veleno + 6/7th d-man + bottom 6 forward

Minor point: Calgary doesn't have that kind of roster room or need for those "extra" 4th line/healthy scratch players. If the goal was to clear some roster spots for prospects I don't think Yzerman would ever do that type of trade. He likes making those prospects win a spot.

If you want equal value back you will never get it. Calgary lost all bargaining power when Tkachuk said he wouldn't re-sign and a list of teams he would accept a long-term deal with leaked (after having lost Gaudreau for nothing) after free agents signed deals and roster spots and caps were filled.

There is something of value:
Vrana = 20-30 goal scoring 2nd line winger under contract for 2 years at RFA pricing. In 37 games with the Wings he has 30 points with 21 goals.
Zadina = prospect (a prospect is one under 23 years old with upside) that Yzerman has kept for a reason.
Veleno = prospect that has 2 way 3rd line centre written all over him.
2024 1st round pick (conditions would mean it becomes a 2024 unless this year goes unexpectedly well for Detroit)
2024 2nd round pick
6/7th RHD under team control for another 3 years.

4 1st round picks? Where? There is only 1. Velano and Zadina are not 1st round picks, they are young players who have not remotely lived up to their draft pedigree. Vrana is a decent middle 6 player with some value but only has 2 years of term remaining and you are trading him to a team that will almost certainly do a full rebuild. His value to Calgary is not that high at all.

This is a bidding war, you cannot lowball an offer here. There will be teams interested in adding a 24 year old 100 point 2-way power forward. This will play out very similar to Eichel where the best offer wins. Detroit would not stand a chance out winning the auction without one of Edvinsson or Kasper involved

I disagree with a lot…
Detroit absolutely has enough assets to complete a trade without Edvinsson and Kasper...
Veleno and Zadina are good, they are young, they are under control…
I feel like this is more than the Eichel trade… but that’s fine if you value Tuch and Krebs more

They do have the pieces for a great offer, also not having to include MK and Edvinsson. But you would need to add higher end prospects, and no fluff. Lindstrom and Erne do nothing to move the needle.

There are also a lot of factors that only CGY and trade partners will know. Are they wanting to still compete, or rebuild. Do you want to tear it all down (Chicago style), or do they just try and re-tool.

Luckily, DET has pieces to help with both, but in no way will they overpay.
