Krug alone is worth at least a 1st. Getting a top 6 D and a top line RW while only giving up Beauvillier, Mayfield, a first, and a salary dump is pretty generous, I think. Taking Bailey's contract off your hands is IMO worth more than you might think. The assumption is you're wanting to add a player of Tarasenko's status without adding to cap. You're saving cap in this case. But you may be right. Your GM is finicky.

You think Krug's contract is worse than Bailey's?
Well, I don't. In any case, Tarasenko won't come cheap.

Krugs contract is definitely worse than Bailey’s. 5 years left @6.5 mill per. Takes him to his age 37 season. Bailey only has 2 years left.

Ok well the isles don’t need Tarasenko, certainly not giving up a 1st rd pick for him.

I'd like to see you remove the Mayfield/Bortuzzo element of the whole thing and do the trade like that. That's just not a necessary move and Mayfield will either leave or get a fat raise we can't handle next year anyway.

The idea with Soucy & Mayfield was to address the Blues' lack of testosterone on D. That's the biggest need I see, anyway. Bortuzzo is actually one of my favorite players, but Mayfield is 4 yrs younger, does everything Bortz does, is more effective at policing the crease, and fits the budget--and would be good value at 3x his current salary. We would find a way to keep him.

I'll admit to being disappointted last night, but I'm glad the MT madness is behind us. I will, however, be disappointed if Army throws in the towel and decides the team is good to go. I think most of us agree, that isn't so.

Frankly, the way he's been making moves the last 6 months, I'd prefer he just do nothing and hope for improvement from within. When the best move you've made by far over a full year is trading RFA rights for a 3rd, there's a damn problem.

And by the way, replacing Bortz with Mayfield is not lifting the team's snarl factor. Obviously.
