Not that Good, last year was if first year who he really took centerman duties. Dvorak would gave them a defensive minded centerman who is great on faceoff, something that Colorado definitely are not great at. Dvorak could alternate on that second line would gave them much needed depth after The lost of Kadri.

Canes pass. Small defenders that get pushed around aren’t of much interest, especially paying 5 million for a 3LD

Yeah you mean small defender like Makar, Fox, Hugues. No one have much interest in a fast transition puck moving defenseman. Jesus lord what’s next!!

People will literally pass on any trade. Montreal could've been give up their first overall pick for Tyler Myers, and Vancouver fans would still find a reason too say pass.

I wouldn't say horribe but yes i think habe will ask for another pick like a 4th or something, habs paid the 27th and a 2nd for him without a contract so fetting a 1st 30-32 range and a good asset who can return a 1st come deadline might be enough but i think habs won't do it but calling it a horrible trade for the habs is a bit of a overreaction

Yea you tripping chief. Girard locks down the LD for the next 2 years and he is far from bad. Honestly he has the ability to be a top line D man but because he is in a system with makar byram and toews, he is overshadowed a lot. He was the Avs best d man before those three came in and should be a top line defender in half-2/3rds of the systems in the NHL. Size matters less and less as we have seen plenty of players who are undersized be super good. Obviously having a guy the size of zdeno chara is a plus but having guys with skill is much more of an asset than it was before. Girard is good at hockey and is easily worth that package. He is sure as hell a step up from the canes current 3LD and could easily slide into the 2LD slot even with the pesce Skjei chemistry.

Nice troll reply. Putting Girard in that class is laughable

1. We can’t afford 5 million for a 3LD.
2. Your overly positive perspective is nice and all but he was bumped in the playoffs this season during Colorado’s run. This supposed 1D is available because Colorado found someone better at helping them win games, Manson, and now they need to move him to keep another player who is better at winning games, Kadri. A 5 million LD isn’t worth the package to play 3LD for us and we have scale his minutes back during the playoffs and give it to bigger defenders who can handle the playoffs. We would have kept TDA if that was the case. Like TDA, we don’t have a ton of interest in 5 million defenders who can’t handle themselves during the playoffs.

I think the more salient point here is that the Canes top 4 D is set for at least 2 more years. I like Girard, but we can't afford that for our 3rd LHD. We've got find someone in the $2M-ish range. That is all. No commentary on his size or skill. I definitely think there is a market out there for him on a team with a hole on their second line, for sure.

Seeing the first trade and thinking "nice, finally someone who tries to solve this without trading Girard, nice!".
Girard is a great asset at a good deal, he will be needed when Toews has priced himself out of here.
Plus, selling now is selling very low.

Starting the season with MacDermid as the 6D is not great.
