Description

I don't want Kadri because of his age and fact that someone will be playing out of position, but it's been so quiet maybe it's time to think that it's going to happen for better or worse. The only thing I hope for is a shorter term, higher AAV contract so it's not such as big of an anchor on the back end.

I'm using $8x5 as the framework for Kadri based off of Kyle Palmieri's deal last year. From what I remember I think a lot of us were expecting a $4x5 deal, however, Palms wound up getting $5x4.

Line decisions:
- I moved Pageau to wing because he would be a candidate to take draws on a line in place of Barzal (who struggles).
- Beau can keep up with Barzal's speed
- Lee and Nelson worked really well at the end of last year, and Lee gets more greasy goals when he has shooters on his line, hence Wahlstrom.
- Parise in place of Martin on the fourth line would be a nice injection of skill

Idk I feel like if Kadri was offered that he would’ve signed by now. I find it hard to believe a guy is age is holding out for more years.

Going to be such a Lou cliche but what if he already did "sign"? Perhaps just waiting to move a Bailey or someone else for a lesser price? We can't afford $8x5 plus paying Dobson/Romanov/Bellows as we currently stand.

Again, really don't want Kadri even though he might be one of my favorite players in the short term. If we got him I could like with a team like this though

I like the team/lineup. I don’t really want Kadri either tbh but I can’t deny that he does make the team better in the short term, even if he isn’t gonna put up 87 points again (and he won’t).

My concern is that Dobson and Romanov are pretty underpaid here. That, plus the reports that Bailey isn’t being moved kinda makes me doubt the viability of signing an $8 million player and probably part of the reason why we ultimately weren’t very competitive for Gaudreau

All fair points. I could move Beau instead for less than a Bjorkstrand return (which I would hate) and as long as the RFA contracts are close the team still fits. But I feel like saying Bailey "isn't available" or "won't be moved" is just an effort to keep his value from totally cratering.

Granted, very different players, but if we had "room" for $9m of Gaudreau should he have accepted than we can fit an $8m Kadri

I really do believe Barzal is gone sooner than later if Kadri is signed.

I also believe Pageau would be a terrible fit with Barzal

No one wants to hear this , but the best outcome for signing Kadri is him regressing and putting up under 50 pts and the isles miss the playoffs. It would be so embarassing for the organization and it would lead to extreme change
