No chance Chevy gets suckered into taking Poolman's contract.

The Jets won't want Poolman back and Pearson has a modifies NTC which is a 7 team no trade list, so it's pretty likely that the Jets are on it.

I could see the Jets trading Dillon for Garland though.

Maybe if it’s Dillon 50% retained and a 1st for garland

That's what a fair deal looks like. I already explained that the Canucks are not at a loss of leverage in such a trade scenario

Bjorkstrand was traded for 3rd and 4th round draft picks, and I would have taken Bjorkstrand 10 times out of 10 instead of Garland if I had the choice between the two.

Fair enough, but I already explained that the Canucks don't have to sell low on Garland if they don't want to

I could see the Jets sweetening the deal by ading Vesalainen because I don't think Vesalainen or the Jets see a match between the player and the organization.

However, seriously, the Jets wouldn't add anything beyond a Vesalainen or maybe a Gawanke level prospect in addition to Dillon in a trade to get Garland.

That said, probably part of the reason we're disagreeing so strongly is because I perceive a top 2 centre as being a much greater positional need than winger for the Jets.

If Garland was a centre, then I'd be significantly more interested if I were making those decisions for the Jets to add on to the Dillon trade to get a skilled centre, even though he's significantly smaller than what's ideal.

I wish it wasn't the case, but bigger players tend to be more impactful in the playoffs when the refs mostly put their whistles away.

So you think size is the be all end all of the NHL? Good grief

If your team isn't as talented as the Lightning or the Avs, then yes, size matters in the playoffs.

Little guys that rack up points in the regular season typically struggle in the playoffs since defencemen are allowed to impede around the goal area far more than what's allowed in the regular season and size / force tends to be more effective in the playoffs as more of the goals come from crashing the net and net front traffic.

We've got Ehlers on the Jets and he's one of my favorite players, but he's targeted in the playoffs with all sorts of physical abuse and he's much less effective in terms of generating points when it's more of an "anything goes" approach to reffing games.

I didn't say I liked it, just that all things being equal, if two players are of equal talent and equally competitive, the bigger player tends to have more success in the playoffs.

Look at Corey Perry for example (who, by the way, I can't stand) who's 6' 3" and 213 lbs. The guy can barely skate at this point in his career and yet he puts up points in the playoffs by crashing the net.

There is no denying that size and sandpaper are still essential elements for success in the playoffs, but the game is still trending towards a faster more skill-based nucleus. Colorado had size for sure, but they weren't overly physical, but they sure were fast and skilled, and that's how they beat the slower and heavier Lightning. I think the old school mentality is getting to your head
