That's an interesting deal from Vancouver's perspective, I think they definitely consider that

I think you're giving back *way* too much value in that JVR trade. If he's a cap dump, why are the Wings sending back a prospect and a pick, much less adding in Hronek and Zadina??

How isn't he? He is going to be much easier to trade than OEL and the Canucks could use Myers' cap space to re-sign Pettersson and potentially keep Miller.

Canucks aren’t going to be dumping Myers for the sake of dumping him. We are not attacking any sweeteners to him. He has value to us

Myers’s contract expires the same offseason as Pettersson so there is no reason to dump him early. We aren’t losing a young top 6 forward to dump it our best RHD

Mo they don’t. They are giving up the two best players in that deal. Hoglander is 21 and already has 2 years of playing in our top 9 and top 6. Myers is also our best RHD. We don’t need the cap space that badly that we lose this much value

I expect the Flyers are going to be hot garbage this season so this trade is targeting their 1st round (likely lottery) pick as the main piece in the deal.

I will post another version of this that maybe seems more enticing. I was thinking that Myers cap space would be better suited to keep J.T. Miller around. What if Hronek was heading to the Canucks?

He was great last year and he's still the Canucks best RD. In an offseason where Gudbranson got a 4x4, the Canucks aren't gonna pay to move Myers.

It all depends on how the Canucks management views Lindstrom, in my opinion, he can be a top 4 D. Boudreau also isn't the biggest fan of Hoglander, and if you can free up 6M as well, you have to consider that package

Boudreau doesn’t dislike Hoglander had a common sophomore slump and needs to figure his game out. Giving up on him now to dump Myers could easily backfire on us. We saw Hoglander step in and play a top 6 role at 19 years old.

Because they're getting a 2023 1st. I like this better than the other proposal. It's much more realistic from Philly's side. JVR only has this season left, so it's not like they're unloading an albatross. He has value.

He's not an awful player but this package is super slanted towards Philly - they move JVR & a 1st and get back a top pair RD, a recent 1st rounder with upside in Zadina, a 2nd rounder, and your 3rd round pick from 2020. Usually a cap dump is a team giving away a bad contract and attaching an asset and *maybe* getting something back - I mean, hell, Max Pacioretty is a better player than JVR with the exact same term and cap hit left and Vegas had to attach a roster player to him to get the Canes to take him on.

I think if you're taking the JVR contract on it should be more like:

DET RECEIVES: JVR, PHI 2023 1st
PHI RECEIVES STL 2023 2nd, Eemil Viro

Adding Zadina and Hronek is major overkill to the deal.

The Vancouver one isn't much better. At least JVR is in his last season of his deal. Why take on a multi season dump with the players Detroit has to sign. Plus Yzerman has never done anything like this as a GM in Detroit or Tampa Bay.

That’s fair, I just mentioned that they should consider it because it checks some of the boxes management has been trying to do
