Not only that, you replace him with e left handed centreman, which essentially takes the puck away from the flames best player in Huberdeau. General line analytics: basically the forward that touches the puck most offensively from the NZ and OZ. not including DZ which is obviously the C, is your opposite side winger as the hand of the centreman. Think about entries, where C bumps it wide to his comfortable side and which side that normally is (there are anomalies keep in mind, there are rules and exceptions). Essentially that winger is the hinge between the C and the strong side winger and needs to be the "playmaker" so to speak. Often, that other winger is the cheaper option where you can put a pure shooter, or a crash and bang type. the line of JG, EL and MT was no surprise this worked because it was a perfect fit into this pretty much widely adopted concept. Taking EL off center eliminates him from as many puck touches down low in the DZ, and also putting a left handed C make JH less effective, that one move would significantly make the line worse, twice over. Also that other winger, because he doesn't touch the puck as much, is more likely to be the off-wing, but not always.
