CURTIS DOUGLAS THE MOST INTRIGUING MAPLE LEAFS PROSPECT

Created by: TML_Tika
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Curtis Douglas is becoming a household name for more and more hockey fans to remember as he is the most intriguing prospect in the Maple Leafs organization being a 22 year old, massive forward at 6 foot 8 and over 240 pounds. He will be the largest forward ever to play in the NHL if he makes the Toronto Maple Leafs which would be an incredible accomplishment.

Kyle Dubas is a believer in Curtis Douglas and proved it when the Leafs recently signed him to a two year entry level NHL contract after he had just completed his first year in the AHL. Curtis Douglas proved after his first full season in the AHL to be someone that the Maple Leafs want to invest their future in. He has the potential to become a powerful fourth line center on the team and has strong faceoff skills, soft hands, deceptive speed who wears defenders out during puck battles, great anticipation, a hard and developing shot and the physical force to stop opponents from taking cheap shots at the team's players.

There is alot to like about Curtis Douglas and he just concluded his first season on the Toronto Marlies in the AHL and finished with 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 67 games but more importantly came on strong in points towards the end of the season and greatly improved in every single skill category possible. He especially improved his skating during the season by putting in alot of extra time working tirelessly with Randi Milani of the Leafs skating development team.

One of the first aspects that stand out about Curtis Douglas is his soft hands. Although he is incredibly tall, Douglas is able to maneuver around his opponents quite easily when he has the puck on the stick.

He is an intriguing player because he's so big and can play and if he can continue to become a stronger skater and use his size more, there may be an NHL roster spot with the Maple Leafs in his future. He has the potential to become one of the most imposing fourth line centres in the entire NHL which is why more and more hockey fans across the NHL are becoming aware of him and interested in following his career and hoping he can make the Leafs in a few years.

Seems like a lot of talk to distract from the other moves made on this thread. What are the chances that Kerfoot has Arizona as on of the teams on his 10 team NT list? I am thinking odds are extremely high.

Curtis Douglas is not someone you would want to fight.
I watched a lot of his tilts last year with the Marlies, and he can go toe-to-toe with anyone. What I like most about him at 4C is there’s no more need for Simmonds

Agree........I think he would be a heavy weight in the NHL.

Douglas is a nice BIG prospect in a system full of tiny players, but its not just a long shot he makes the NHL, its a real long shot.

Being honest, his highest UPSIDE is a 4th liner who might be able to take a regular shift. But in TOR where your top 5 forwards play 20 minutes, your 3rd line plays (4th line) 12-14 minutes and your 4th line plays only 10 minutes a night, theres little chance that he gets a regular shift IF he even reaches the highest of expectations.

Its a pretty weak and very small prospect pool. (Robertson injury/struggles, Amirov's health, Dubas trading picks dont help). But really the Leafs have a very tiny prospect pool in terms of player size (theres a reason gabriel, foligno, simmonds, clifford and now douglas have been added in last 2 yrs), Dubas continually goes for the small skill guys, which has made leaf fans over estimate Douglas and his future

I know he is a long shot but what a story if he makes it..........Leafs are everything that is right about hockey on taking a chance on him.
