Options and Coronato and Kadri

Created by: Rotheisler
Team: 2022-23 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2022
Published: Aug. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Coronato doesn't workout, still have Pelletier, or even reshuffle with Monahan if he were to agree buyout/ resign for 2 years. Gives depth and options at F and D with injuries. People will scoff at a 2nd for Valamaki, but fans tend to undervalue what GMs see in potential in former 1st rounders. Nobody expected us to get the Bennett return at the time, and either way, maybe its a 3rd rounder+, whichever.

Ducks pass, plenty of depth at LD, no sense picking up Juuso with Zelwegger and Mintyukov in the pipeline. If he was a RHD I might give you Colorado's 2nd for him, but I wouldn't give up a 40 OA pick on him.

Theres really no chance Coronato makes the team this year, Pelletier is much more likely to make it.

Add Forbort and Wagner to the Bruins trade, then we have a trade.

Boston can’t add cap.

Foligno blocks with NTC.

Boston has no interest in Looch.

Only way it makes sense is if Boston is reducing cap. Considering Calgary is trying to do the same there is simply no trade that works for both teams.

I don't think Boston would block trade and this has probably been talked about. Two bad contracts only one year left, but for room purposes it might be worth the million or so difference, and wouldnt be surprised if it was discussed when the others took the pay cut as a potential reason. The bruins trade is a pretty realistic, not a big deal trade, depth trade that will make a little space, not much for calgary, and the trade off is pretty slight to get Lucic back in that room, which they would like if cap was not a thing obviously.

Regarding the Coronato/Pelletier part. I believe I addressed that in the description. I thin most likely as well, but Coronoto has the higher ceiling I think, just not as NHL ready. That being said there are other factors including signing him before he gets the taste to wait out and be a college free agent, and the high ceiling is worth a quick throw in the water and see if he swims with talent, briefly, then you have a pelthora of other options, including Pelletier for a better solution if not.

In regards to Ducks passing, I have talked to Jusso and he agrees to play RH for the purpose of the trade. smile jk ..obv
